Thomas Covenant Art

I don't know if any of you have seen these, but they came from a 1983 book called Realms of Fantasy. They were drawn by Mark Harrison. The book also contained drawings from Middle Earth, Earth Sea, Lost Worlds and a few others.
My scanner is not a flat one, so I could not scan; just took some digital pictures to give you an idea of how they look. Hope to scan them in somewhere else later. (No way I could have walked down those stairs)

nice pics; Coercri is not so polished in my imagination, but what the heck; it's good to see that someone has drawn at least some illustrations of my favourite world

Thanks. I really like Kevin's Watch and Andelane. That is a cool avatar, Vexis. That is Stilgar from Dune?

I really liked the pictures too, Bannor. Great art work, and even though they weren't scanned, there enough detail comes through in the photos.

I have a new appreciation for TC's vertigo.

I felt exactly the same appreciation, hearthcoal! Now, I wonder, who built Kevin's Watch, and what kind of courage would it take to take on a job like that?

Those are great pictures! I especially love Kevin's Watch (you're right, Hearthcoal...imagine going down those steps! 8O) and Andelain (I think that picture captures the spirit of the place as much as any picture can!). Foul's Creche is cool too, with the red glow of Hotash Slay. I don't know about Coercri, though - I didn't see it as being so...polished, as amanibhavam put it... :?

Oh, well. Great pics, anyway. :)

A Funny Story about my Avatar

Post by Vexis Larseker »

Thanks for the compliments on my avatar, but it's just one I picked from the site gallery. I had a different avatar until a few days ago...

I picked my original avatar because I liked the look of it: a knight kneeling in service to the Lord. Here's the pic: Image.

So, I'm male in real life. Some of you probably already know where I'm going with this. A few days after picking it, I was making a post and glanced at the avatar after the post and thought, "That's a real cool picture. Knight kneeling before the Lord, looks a little like Joan of Ar...OMG, that's Joan of Arc! Why didn't I recognize it before?" And apparently I'm not secure enough in my masculinity to let myself be represented by a female avatar, so I immedately changed it. I decided to go for something wizardly this time.

And now you say that the pic I chose is Stilgar from Dune? Sigh...that's not what I was going for, but I guess I can live with it.

I totally agree with all of you about Coercri, and I really didn't like making the people so small (I know it was done out of perspective, but I would have rather seen a great drawing of the Giants). The other three all met my expectations.
Vexis! Nothing wrong with being associated with Stilgar of Dune! I couldn't tell that the other avatar was Joan of Arc (I only recognized Stilgar because of the calendar I had that year). Still a great avatar!

Acquired hardcover '83 version of Gilden-Fire (as well as 1st and 2nd chrons) finally.

The cover of Gilden-Fire has a illustration of Revelstone as well as others by Peter Goodfellow. Will scan and post :) Maybe then Danlo will advise as to whether this particular version of Revelstone is up to standard ;)

I got me some reading to do :)

I just imagined KW as having spiral steps, more scary to me. I couldn't have done it either way, I sway standing on my suitcase to change light bulbs...

OK. Click for Revelstone kevinswatch.ihugny.com/images/r2.jpg

As for Kevins Watch, reading it again and actually trying to pay attention to detail, Kevins Watch is described as having steps as steep as a ladder. Cannot say I remember that one line description either :)

Revelstone is also, thus far, briefly described as being hewn from rock so yep, that Disney Castle will just have to go :)

Very cool! I didn't realize there was a bridge crossing in that location--however there is more than 1 way 2 access Revelstone. I'm kind particular about including the watch tower in my drawings, but if that bridge symbolizes the 1 crossing Furl Falls I could live w/that. I imagined the Falls in a completely dif location--but that doesn't matter--PLEASE use that, if u can, it is tottaly awesome!!! If I can find a scanner somewhere I'll send u some stuff!

Great pic, Off Center, but I always pictured Revelstone on the ground (but like the picture otherwise). If it were as the pic relates it, almost no one could even try to attack Revelstone. What do you think?

Talking about "The Land" art..

Post by sn00ze »

Since you guys are deep in the "art" of The Land discussion
I'm taking the oportunity to ask you how you guys visualize some of the
creatures in the novels.
I'm asking because I'm running an RPG game based on the first chronicle
and I would like to show up some pictures to my players to help them
imagine what the land and its creatures looks like...

Bloodguard: I was thinking about using some sort of a Yeti/Bigfoot kind
of picture. I can't recall where in the 1st book the haruchai
are described but I always saw them Ape-man like...

Ur-Viles: Shadow, kind of dark foggy creature

Demondim: Devil like creature. Fangs. Look a little bit like Diablo from the
Computer game

Wayhim: No eyes!! I can't think of anything similar to look for (i.e. using
a picture taken from the web)... Any ideas??

Cavewigths: For those of you who ever saw the Earthdawn RPG book,
there's a creature called Kreescra (couldn't find the picture on the web...)
It's a misshapen kind of creature with big feets/hands and a long face with
deep eyes sockets

Any comments?? How do you guys see those creatures?? And others...

Bloodguard as Yeti. Well, that's a new one.

If you look at Bannor's avatar, you will have a very good idea of what I think a Bloodguard looks like. Initially, I associated them with the Romulans from Star Trek...but now I am not sure why.

I probably won't have time to do this for a few days, but at some point I (or other fans here) could double check the descriptions (in the books) of the creatures you listed and let you know how hot or cold you are.

Check back in with us. Cool avatar BTW.
