Dark City Directors Cut
I love when I pick up good movies cheap, Wally World always keeps a bin full of older titles out in the aisle, never the less I was stunned to find this title amongst them. I was happy to purchase it if only to rescue it from the shame of the bargain bin, but I loved this film back in the day ( yes it has been over a decade ), and Im curious about the extras.

Rufus Sewell, Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly, William Hurt, and Richard O'Brien written, produced, and directed by Alex Proyas. Roger Ebert called it the best movie of 1998, which surprises me because Ebert's a tool box! Ive liked his other work as well, the Crow is also one of my favorites.

My older sister is a major Sewell fan and told me she'd kick my butt if I didn't see Dark City-I'm very glad I did-I'll be looking for that DVD at WW as well. She fell in love with him after seeing him in some weird mermaid-ish movie: She---somethingorother. I've only seen two Eleventh Hour episodes on TV and enjoyed his acting immensely-but have the rest of them recorded for the doldrums of summer. (...then again she's a major Queens of the Stoneage fan too, so very weird in a very good way-she and Syl would get along famously.

honestly i was very excited that a film of this book had been made because i really liked the book a lot. but when it came out i was sort
of disappointed. it wasn't as good as i'd thought it would be.
but its been since it came out since i've seen it.
might netflix it and give it another try.

I like this film, but it's significantly flawed. And if the Wikipedia article is at all accurate (a big 'if', I know) I would have preferred the original ideas:

The protagonist was a detective investigating a case that did not make logical sense, driving him insane as the evidence pointed to a larger, incomprehensible scheme. The detective was originally in pursuit of Murdoch, but Proyas considered the detective's perspective too analytical and changed it to the perspective of the man being chased to take a more emotive point of view. The original plot was changed to the story of Eddie Walenski in the film, played by Colin Friels. Proyas was also inspired by science fiction stories of simulated reality that he read during his childhood. Yes, it would have been interesting to follow the story from the detective's POV. Especially since I like William Hurt as an actor.
But I would have been far less enthusiastic about an ending in which the Strangers won. In fact, I probably would have hated the movie if that had happened.
I'd like to get the movie, but I want to get it (and all future movies) on Blu-ray. Which means I'll wait and see if I can get a good deal, because as awesome as Blu-ray is, the prices for Blu-ray movies aren't. Especially when they gouge you for a bare bones disc, like the recent release of 2010.
