I once again made it to Friday without killing anyone, even those that dearly deserved it. It's an accomplishment of sorts, I suppose.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

I *was* having a good day. Then we got a memo from the Powers That Be here at work. The sabbatical program is being suspended TFN. Which means the two-month paid vacation that I was expecting to get next spring is officially in limbo.

I oughta just suck it up and soldier on. I mean, there are very few people who get *any* sort of sabbatical in this world. And compared to getting a pink slip (of which I've had my share), this is miniscule. But still, I'm feeling kinda bait-and-switched right now. :(

That's on top of the news that I got earlier this week: one of the two attorneys who I've worked for since I was hired here is leaving the firm. :( Not a good week at work for me. Happy effin' Friday.

I am amused. The IT department of my university accidentally reset everybody's passwords for e-mail and computer access, and decided to inform everybody of the mistake using everybody's university e-mail accounts, which cannot be accessed without those passwords.

Yeah... It's true that most people get no form of sabbatical, but that doesn't help with having one that's then taken away. It's like an upgraded version of being told you have to work all weekend.

Quote of the week, for me. I guess it's a bad sign that I'm feeling more and more the urge to throttle people at my job. Not necessarily my co-workers, but members of the public...who don't appear to comprehend that just because I greet them when they come in or answer them on the phone does not mean I'm psychically in tune with their needs or that I'm a repository of instant knowledge. In short, people are annoying and dumb, and I wish I didn't have anything to do with them. Not the healthiest view to take of my fellow human beings, but there you go. (And I'm not even the full-time receptionist - I just fill in for her lunch hour. Some days, I don't know how she stops herself from throwing the phone out the window.)

Oh, well, at least it's not actually "soul-sucking" - a term used by Watchers who've been in retail. I pray I never go into retail.

My last day of peace and quiet as the my beloved is returning tomorrow after spending 10 days in sunny and hot Spain( preparing stuff 4 our wedding :P ) so its been a frantic few hours cleaning the house hoovering , mopping and worst of all because of our beloved cats who have given us a present of fleas :-x , ive had strip everything from the sofa bed etc and give the whole place a good clean , oh ya kicked the cats out the door aswell and treated them.
Marshalling a 10k race nearby in the morning and then off to work till late and pick up herself at 1am in the local airport busy days. And then back to be driven around the bend again ;)

Ugh, I've done full time reception. Horrible, horrible job. Infuriating.

But yes, better than retail.

That explains so much! ;)

It's been a good and bad day. . .
  • The good:
got to hang out with my fiance
bought the 80's encore version of Guitar Hero
was given a Israeli paratrooper surplus messenger bag
had a phonecall from a MIA watcher :D
  • The bad:
    my car is leaking oil
    had a flat tire yesterday
weekend plans with my Mom have been shot to hell due to storm knocking out power. :(
I still have a metric crap-ton of reports to do for my work.

My legs are a bit sore. I biked 3 1/2 miles on a stationary bike, and then walked five miles, all within a few hours. It was fun though, and I feel good to have gotten some exercise in, especially as I've been skipping my usual exercise in order to make room for homework this semester.

And I'm annoyed because a friend of mine teased me because I couldn't pronounce Debussy--which I think is a very understandable mistake. I hate it when people make fun of my inability to pronounce things, especially when they then turn around and tell other people about it (which she did--while I was asking her not to). Does the whole world need to know every single time I mispronounce a word? This happened in the middle of a concert, so I guess she didn't notice that my crying was from her teasing and not from my enjoyment of the music (even though I was enjoying the music--I really like Debussy's music). I haven't decided yet whether I'm mad at her, or just very annoyed.

Yes, that seems like a petty thing for a friend to tease/mock you about.

You know, the more I read about the behaviour of "friends" of Watchers in this thread, the more I think "friend" is a one-word oxymoron.

I'd say you're within your rights to be both mad and annoyed if a friend made you cry and didn't even notice. They need a good whack upside the head. Send 'em my way; I'm in the mood for random violence this week.

Thank you, but violence won't be necessary.
I talked with my friend, and apparently she didn't realize how sensitive I am about my mispronuniciation issues. I think she still doesn't really understand how upset I was about her teasing (I didn't tell her about the crying), but I believe her that she didn't intend to hurt my feelings. A little more conversation should prevent this in the future.
