Power metal, particularly from mainland Europe for some reason, does tend to be more upbeat than other sub-divisions of metal. 'Hunters and Prey' is about as chirpy as I've ever heard it get though (and, surprisingly enough, I believe Angra are South American rather than European).matrixman wrote:Cheerful is right. I'm not enough of a heavy metal connoisseur to have a strong opinion either way, but such an ebullient sound from a metal band is quite unusual.
Personally, I don't require metal to be grim or aggressive. Like most genres of music, literature, or any other form of 'art', metal is capable of more than it seems to be. Including happiness.

That song usually makes me smile, hence me listening to it today. It's been my source of reinvigoration for continuing work. I don't own much Angra; I should probably buy more...
