Good Science Fiction Movies

Not Star Wars or Star Trek (though they can be very enjoyable ) For example, I would suggest:
1)Forbidden Planet
2)Sunshine

And I'm looking forward to District 9 and Moon. Any other suggestions?

Actually, there are three recent versions. One is so bad it's not worth mentioning, and the C. Thomas Howell one is called "War of the Worlds" not The War of the Worlds, so technically I can list the 50s version and Spielberg's

Is the Mothman Prophecies science fiction? I'd say it's more horror, as it does not really have any scientific basis.

Definitely thumbs up for Logan's Run (although the t.v. series based on it was awful) and AI.

Right Mothman (it's listed on 3 so-called Top 100 Sci Fi sites) and Mouth of Madness probably are pure horror-For horror movies I'd have added The Serpent and the Rainbow along with these two. I've naysayed Riddick for a long time, but finally saw about 2/3s two weekends ago and was impressed.

Someone else likes this. I don't remember how many times I saw it--time after time--in the theatre (before VHS allowed movie-goers to anticipate owning their favorites). Certainly dated now, but I still watch it from time to time.

Good movie as it has an interesting, non-masculine protagonist. I have always liked McDowell's work. Which reminds me, I must add A Clockwork Orange to my list.
