Unfortunately, w/o cable, its impossible to keep up w/hockey. After the Flyers, the Wings are team I care about, and I would like the rematch, and another Cup for Detroit. Makes up for the Lions...

Now tell me how much more open can my mind be?

My enthusiasm for hockey went south (figuratively) when our Winnipeg Jets went south (literally) to become the Phoenix Coyotes back in the 90's. It wasn't that I was a hockey fanatic, but the sense of betrayal ran pretty deep when the Jets left town, and I could not help but feel it too.Seven Words wrote:Am I the only hockey fan on here? Or at least, the only one whose team made the playoffs?
I still nominally follow the playoffs, but I can only be bothered to watch the Cup final (if at all).
All that said, it'll be interesting to see if Sidney Crosby will follow in the footsteps of Mario Lemieux and be the next great Stanley Cup champion player for Pittsburgh.
On the other hand, in a Detroit-Pittsburgh showdown, I'm with Detroit, if only because that's Duchess's home team.

no, it won't make up for the Lions...the first ever 0-16? Cup this year, Cup next, then we can say "makes up for the Lions".Cybrweez wrote:Unfortunately, w/o cable, its impossible to keep up w/hockey. Carolina was just outclassed. They never stopped trying, working hard, hustling for every puck, every opportunity. But the Pens are just too good.
Tonight, my Wings ought to close out the 'Hawks.

I also have been a Pittsburgh Penguins fan long long prior to the arrival of Mario L (not quite since 1967 like Dromond but close...). However I have since learned that I (apparently) hold the fate of all Pitsburgh sports team in my hand. As soon as I say they are going to win it is all over but the crying. So I will (honestly) just say that Detroit is an awesome team and the cup finals should be very entertaining.
Seven Words, we should have a friendly wager. If the Pens win you can add Penquins as your official "eigth word" and if the RWs win I can ... well ... you pick.

Yep... 1967.
I was seven years old and my older Brother Joe (13 y.o.) took me to a game ( several eventually) I didn't know anything about hockey, but I learned a lot about the sport, and life, too... that night was great! Powder blue uniforms,(black and gold came in 1979, maybe '80, to match the Steelers and Pirates) the Civic Arena, Shiny and new, a bus ride the four miles to downtown, seeing a sign inside... 'Only the Lord saves more than Binkley!' ( Les Binkley, the Pens goalie... I thought that was so clever!) The Zamboni machine was mesmerizing! We lost to Buffalo, but it was the winter of love, Yeah,Baby!

A Game 5 win in Detroit may be more possible than a Game 7 win. I say the Pens needs Game 5!Dromond wrote:Pens gotta win one in Detroit, they just gotta!
Btw Drommond, not to be too personal but it sounds like you lived near Pittsburgh! Personally, I grew up in PA and went to the University of Pittsburgh for undergrad and grad school. I really enjoyed the 7 or so years that I lived there...
