I'm very tired, will go back to bed. Dam dog having to pee... I just got the crap scared out of me thinking someone was breaking into the house: yesterday I hooked the ice machine in the fridge up for the very first time and forgot about it-then the second I got on the comp, just now, heard all sorts of whining and crashing.
Apparently it DOES take 12-24 hrs before working! Whew!

fall far and well Pilots!

Elfy -- I totally agree with you!
Feeling kinda virtuous today. Traffic was light this morning so I got to DC more than an hour before I was supposed to start work.
So I got off the Metro at Rosslyn and walked to work over the Key Bridge and through Georgetown. When I got here, I mapped the walk (mapmywalk.com) and found out I'd walked 2.26 miles. Go me!

Today Beorn is taking the official ACT for the first time. Yeah, not only on a Sunday, and on Father's Day at that, but about four to six months early.
We set this up at the start of the school year, as we were getting his College Board accommodations for the PSAT, SAT and AP exams. For the ACT, you have to take the exam to get the accommodations in place, so we scheduled it for the last exam in the school year, to give him time to be taught what he may not have learned yet.
I am amazed and truly pleased with his school though. Because of his extra time accommodation, he is being given nearly six hours to take the test, so he is being tested one-on-one. Since he is taking drivers ed, there was no weekday available to him that had six hours free. And he had the one Saturday drivers ed class of his course yesterday, which was the only Saturday available within the testing period. So, his school is specifically opening today, Father's Day, for Beorn to take the ACT one-on-one.
We truly are blessed with the IEP team we have in place for him.

I'm going to be spending money on air conditioning in the near future. The window unit in the house is about ready to be taken behind the barn and put out of its misery.
Plus, on Friday, when I could have used it in the car, I turned on the a.c. to find that I was getting hot air back at me.

Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a good carpenter to build one.

*apologies for the double post*
Beorn has just returned from the ACT.
He didn't need the full six hours, he finished in five.
As he put it, "All of the multiple choice questions were easy: math, reading, science, and English...except for one math question I couldn't figure out how to do." But, he totally did not relate to the essay prompt, which was "take a stance in the debate on teaching leadership skills" and they were given two approaches to doing so, or they could come up with their own method for teaching them. He said he didn't agree with either method, and could not come up with his own, so he said he wrote an essay explaining why he felt even attempting to teach leadership skills was doomed to failure.
*heavy sigh mixed with extreme emotion*
Well...
...maybe he'll get some points for at least trying to stay on topic.
And we'll see just how easy those multiple choice sections were when results come in...

Here's hoping Beorn aced the ACT, Menolly!
Damelon: man, that sucks....
Today was pretty good. Dragged my butt off the couch this morning to go to the pool and managed to swim 18 laps (1/2 mile) -- go me! Then I ran a bunch of errands, did a little ritual for the solstice, made blueberry soup and Moroccan chicken soup (which made for a tough choice for dinner -- the chicken soup won out) and am currently making yogurt (well, the yogurt machine is making it -- my part's basically done) and doing laundry. And it's only 8pm.
Happy Litha (summer solstice)!

If I was marking that test, I'd give him extra credit for looking beyond what the question asked - that's called 'free thinking'! And he's damn right to boot! You can't 'teach' leadership - you either got it, or you don't!
Go Beorn!

My phone was stolen yesterday so I have to shell out $100 for a new one
I'm not even getting a thrill like I usually do when buying new technology, even though the phone is a huge leap from what I used to own. I'd rather have my old crappy phone and leave my savings intact.

It's pretty hot here. . I know I saw one sign that said 98 F.
I spent some time at my parents' farm this weekend, and when I was there I picked gooseberries, black raspberries, golden raspberries, sugar snap peas, sweet peas, banana peppers, anaheim peppers, and over 4 quarts of cherries (and there were tons left on the trees!). I got enough to make two cherry pies, so I am happy.

Yep, I'm still alive and kickin'.danlo wrote:Good to see you posting ali! Just heard about the subway accident in DC on the car radio, but, just now, discovered it was on the Maryland side. Was immediately concerned. Hope no one here was involved.
93 here so, sort of warm

All joking aside, it was a bad wreck. Four people dead, last I heard. The NTSB is investigating. But it looks like one train just missed all the signals and plowed into -- and on top of -- a train ahead of it. Yeesh.
Edit: Check that -- they're now saying six dead.
