What's wrong with The Rock? I genuinely enjoyed it.

It's a lot better than a lot of the other trashy action movies that have come out since then (T3 and Die Hard 4 come to mind).

A notable moment occurs during the dementedly frenetic final act of Transformers 2. A robot-on-robot fracas is unfolding around Egypt's Giza Necropolis, with Devastator, an especially massive mechanoid comprised of several construction vehicles, set on clawing its way to the peak of a pyramid. As it lumbers up the dusty colossus, a shot tilts up to its mid-section, revealing two wrecking balls dangling down. Yes, Michael Bay, the man who brought us cyber-micturition in this movie's predecessor, has one-upped himself: Decepticon testicles.

My son really enjoyed the first one, so we decided to see this one. What a mistake. I feel sorry, genuinely sorry, for parents who are very sensitive to profanity who mistakenly take their kids to this movie (I can just hear them saying, "It used to be a Saturday morning cartoon show. How bad can it be?"). Of course, my son's heard worse from his former sailor of a dad while in the back seat of my car, so... Still, I think Optimus Prime saying the words "punk ass" is not befitting his dignity, and a mom talking about her son's "cherry" being "popped" is just weird.

The action scenes were a mess, hardly any of the transformers had character (except for the old one, but even then, it didn't make any sense to me how he could know nothing about Earth when he's a freaking SR-71. and don't even get me started on the incomprehensible Cylonicon), and it was just too damn long.

As big of a disappointment as Night at the Museum 2 (I really need to start reading reviews again. or avoiding movies that take place at the Smithsonian), only made tolerable by slow-mo bouncing cleavage.

I saw tthis tonight, my favourite scene was the fight in the woods between Prime, Megatron and someone else.

Megan Fox and Bumblebee are awesome. So was the robot chick.

The parents are terrible, as is the plot. The autobot twins were shocking.

Ebert really *liked* the Rock, he's lamenting the fall of someone who was once a luminous talent. I read the review too, I think that snippet is a little out of context. (Ebert gave the Rock 3 and a half stars)

The first film was a joke every other line. It was in fact very distracting. I was like, "So Transformers was a comedy too?" Not to mention that Bernie Mac was in the damn film. I can only imagine what a laugh-riot this sequel's script is (and not in a good way, I'm sure).

Toy Story 4. Revenge of the Woody.

I just got back from seeing this.

All in all, it wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be. On the other hand, it wasn't as enjoyable as the first one, which is too bad.

At time, it seemed to just devolve into silliness - in a bad way. Not to mention, many of the Transformers seemed like they were created for a single scene.

And don't get me started on the practice of killing off characters just to bring them back to life. It was pointless melodrama when Star Trek did it to Spock, and it's still just as pointless with Megatron and Optimus Prime.

Overall, the most disappointing aspect was Starscream's role. In an interview with Michael Bay, he stated that in the original script (for the sequel) more time was spent on Starscream. Specifically, how he tried to lead the Decepticons himself, and how he viewed the fued between Megatron and Prime as pointless bickering that was wasteful for their species as a whole.

Through successive rewrites, all of that got tossed.

I've got more critiques, but why bother? In the end, it's an enjoyable movie that nevertheless isn't as good as its predecessor. Take it for what it is, and move on.

I have to agree that Starscream could have been better handled. Whilst I was waiting for TF2, I followed the comic where he took control of the Decepticons and returned to Cybertron. Finding it difficult to be the leader, I believe he decided to bring Megatron back to life. Which is a very interesting departure from the classic Starscream. I am hoping that in TF3 he makes an attempt to take control again, or do something that is grossly at odds with Megatron.

I guess I'm in the minority then, but I went to watch the movie with three friends and in the end we all had enjoyed it. Sure, it's a popcorn movie... but if your expectations are that the movie will be light on plot and story development but big on action sequences and it will be filled with giant robots beating each other up - that is, if you want to watch a movie where you can turn off the brain for a couple of hours and you don't have to think about what's going on, as well as not being left with compelling unanswered questions at the end - it's not that bad.

As I said, I didn't expect anything more than some action, very good CGI, and a lot of fighting robots... So admittedly my expectations were fairly low

The scene that went on and on and on and on and on grated on my nerves somewhat, if you have seen it you know the one that I am talking about. Out of the new characters I really, really liked Jetfire. All in all I enjoyed the film.
