I did not see the movie. I don't really have any intention of seeing it either.

My opinion of the books is that the premise is really good. Like Fire Daughter, I like Meyer's take on Vampires, that the reason they don't go out in the sun is that they sparkle, and would draw too much notice, not that they would die. It's fresh and new, and I like that she has a new way of looking at things.
I also like her plot lines. In and of themselves, they are good.
She also does a good job of having strong, fleshed out characters. They all have personality, and back story (which is more than can sometimes be said for JK Rowling).

However, Meyer's writing itself could use a LOT of work. She says in at least one interview that she wrote the books for herself, and it shows. There are several places where she doesn't take into account her target audience. The books tend to lose the reader's interest.

So, overall: I like her characters, I like her premise, I like her plot. I don't like her writing style. I was able to get through all four of her books without too much trouble, but I'm not sure I'd recommend them to anyone else, especially not an adult.
I live in my own little world...but its okay, they know me here!

I am now reading the books as part of a deal to get my sister to read Harry Potter. 2 1/2 books in, and I am bored. The only reason I want to know what happens next is to have the reassurance that anything of interest happens at all, and it hasn't so far. Surely by the end of the fourth book something interesting will happen?

The only thing I've enjoyed so far is making fun of the entirely ridiculous "danger" sequences. Everything that is supposed to be scary or creepy, etc., seems to be utterly absurd.

And Stephanie Meyer needs to find some adjectives that aren't "perfect".

I guess you dislike vampires in general -- which is to be expected. If they weren't just fictional, we would all have to take that viewpoint.

This particular family of vampires has renounced human blood and feeds off large carnivores where they have become overpopulated. The last of the 4 books ends with confrontation between these vampires and a family of conscienceless vampires, the kind that consider humans as we consider cattle.

Because of that, the series is suitably idealistic for teenagers.

Sounds like Fevre Dream, the only book by George Martin that I really love.
