Just saw it on DVD. Good movie. I had no trouble following it though I had no real knowledge except what I'd seen in trailers.

Not much to add to the discussion except a couple of personal observations. My wife watched it last night and told me to pay attention to the music. Obviously, she enjoyed the choices and I understand why she enjoyed them. As a Watchmen outsider, the choices were mildly amusing but I could ignore them mostly.

Rorschach's final inkblot made me laugh out loud. I'm fairly certain that was not the director's intention, but I did appreciate the absurdity of it. Of course, I never did understand Rorschach's shifting mask anyway. Perhaps that was a failing of the script.
Spoiler
As the only Watchman without a backstory, Ozymandias seemed the logical villain. I saw through the cyanide pill scene at once.
Still debating whether to watch it again before returning it to Netflix, but I enjoyed the movie.

He did have a backstory, there just wasn't time for it in the movie.

I watched it on DVD a few nights ago, and I think it's a much better film than Snyder's others.

Oh, I was sure there was backstory, but the only reason I could see (since I haven't read the GN) for excluding it

was that it would reveal things about Ozymandias the director didn't want to.
Ergo, my conclusion.

Yeah, I know that's logic that only works for cinematic whodunits, but you should see some of the leaps my wife makes--and she's right far too often.

Anyway, leaving out his backstory made him an outsider, and IMO that's a glaring error.
