What if the 7 words are really 7 wuurds? Didn't Findail speak of Elohim sacrificing themselves in the past? Perhaps each "word" signifies the type of sacrifice made. Does the Colusus of the Fall fit in anywhere? It is stone.
Old man how is it that you hear these things?
Young man how is it that you do not?

I think that was discussed extensively in the past and no one could name the 7th word. :?

If the seventh word implied the essential understanding of Kevins Lore then it is no wonder that none of the new lords know it.

Certainly the actual pronounciation of the word itself should not be a mystery. The Bloodguard should have been able to tell them, unless the word was too powerful to be used for some reason. So the fact is probably that the words themselves were known, somehow, but that because of their lack of lore the new lords could not use them. The unfettered one could use more because he was unfettered.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Amok may have provide a clue with his smart aleck remark of: "...those who know me have no need of my name."

The giant-raver Kinslaughter recognized the limits of the Lord's lore and thus mocked him. But I noticed that the ravers did shy away or flinch at the words that were used. Ok so they hurt but as Kinslaughter said they were limited and so both Hyrum's and Mhorams use to the ravers might've been no more than a stinging slap to the face...you know, the kind that your momma gave you when you slipped a cuss word out as a kid. I dunno but the rest of you but mine did... ow

this is probably gunna work out making me look stupid, but i had a go :P

hmm... just been playing with the earlier meanings off the words in this post...

Melenkurion abatha! Minas mill Banas Nimoram khabaal! Melenkurion abatha! Abatha Nimoram!
-
Lord of Darkness Peace! Water Air Light Command Fire! Lord of Darkness Peace! Peace Command!

this is what i got when i translated that unfettered's quote...

water, air, light... if i'm not mistaken thats what plants and trees live on...

water air light, command fire... interesting idea... link in with mhoram's summoning of caerroil wildwood... the lord's fire among the trees.

water air light = trees = forestal - command fire

caerroil came forth when mhoram brandished his flame... mhoram commanded fire as it were... and caerroil came as the words seem to dictate...

water air light, command fire
or basically
forestal, commands fire. see where i'm going here? ;) (god i love messing about with things...)

-

now lets look at this from the PoV of a lord... these words they know... or think they know... and write out the literal translation according to the last quote...

Melenkurion Abatha Duroc minas mill khabaal
-
Lord of Darkness Peace! Earth Water Air Fire!

...i'm looking for the sense in that... but i dont see it... missing word - "Nimoram" - Command...

what invocation would have any power without the command?

in short what i think... the lords have 6 words, but without the 7th the rest are seemingly useless. unless you put them in order you aren't going to get it right, like any half decent spell.

thoughts?

bah, I still think he was just invoking the words on behalf of Banas Nimoram, which is why the word "Banas Nimoram" appear in his shouting...

Bah? A little Scrooge left over from the holidays, eh? :D Yes I agree I think Banas Nimoram simply means 'Celebration of Spring' in the Old Language and is not part of the 7 words of power...

Hehe, This thread is old Balon and was way back on page whatever, so I posted in it, thus "bumping" it back up to the top.

On the subject of Binas/Minas, has anyone thought of the possibility of conventions in the entire lanuage of the Old Lords not just the phrases? What im saying is look at french (for those who dont know french just follow along) in french the word for 'the' like: 'the pencil' can be Les or if followed by a vowel L' The same goes for Des, ie) D'. So could the REAL word be Inas, with B'inas and M'inas? Only over the course of time the apostrophy just got left out, to leave Binas and Minas? Two ways of describing something?
