Padme, aka Natalie Portman

Anybody think this girl is as beautiful as I think she is ? I think that she's one of the prettiest girls in Hollywood. Anyone agree with me?

She is very pretty. Stiff as an old boot in Star Wars but pretty. :-)

Always liked Portman...

Anyone seen her in "Beautiful Girls"? Great movie and great role for Natalie.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. The problem I think, is that the character (both Padme and the queen), cant do much about her situation. Completely stuck I think. I really liked NatalieP in Leon, there she was allowed to do some acting...

I think she is a truly lovely young lady. She reminds me of a young Audrey Hepburn. But in the Star Wars movies she is so wooden...I haven't seen her in anything else, so I will have to take Brinn and Ylva's word on her acting abilitites in other films. The fact that she can act in other films, but is so poor in these indicates very poor directing to me...

In Episode 1? Pretty much except the two headed announcer at the pod race. They were pretty lively. Episode 2. I thought there were a few characters that were portrayed pretty well. The sand people died pretty convincingly. :-) If you mean all of Star Wars, I think the original cast was very animated. IMHO of course.

I was referring to the new films. The old one had more diversity in most areas, actually.

I agree, but what can NP do? Her character changes dramatically from episode to episode, she will always be unfavorably compared to Carrie Fischer, and she's stuck with a co-star who doesn't come close to having Harrison Ford's talent. But, she sure is purty.

I guess there is not all that much that she can do, and I do not really blame her for the failiure of her character. I have seen her do well in other movies so it is pretty clear that the problem probably lies elsewhere.

I agree. She is actually a very good actor. I've watched two other films she has been in before, and I liked her acting then.

Natalie Portman

Post by matrixman »

Natalie Portman is fabulous. I first saw her in the film Heat, in which she played the daughter of Al Pacino's detective character. It was a minor part, but it was good for her career. Anytime you appear in a movie alongside Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, you get noticed! The movie itself is a gripping 3-hour epic that's worth every minute. Seriously overlooked by the Oscars.

I thought Natalie was convincing as Padme. Her character was believable to me. I think she's been handicapped by the losers around her (ooh, I might get flak for that). In Episode I, she had to put up with Jar Jar and behave with a straight face toward those Trade Federation goofs with the Charlie Chan accents. Then in Episode II she had to act romantic with a log impersonating as a human being, Anakin. Did anybody else cringe when she greeted him with "Aniii!" Huh? Annie? Annie Hall? I had visions of Daddy Warbucks entering stage right to shake everyone's hands.

I shudder to think what indignities Padme may go through in Episode III. There is going to have to be major hell breaking loose if Lucas wants everything to jive with the the events of the later (original) movies.

I'm glad someone else previously mentioned Leon, that has been her Best Role yet, " until our honeymoon video comes out " ,but she kicked major ass as Pooh in beautiful girls, man what a scene. and she has done all right as Padme/Amidala,

but her other movies so far what poor role choices, it was a shame to see such a great actress in such bad movies.

A lot of people have said her acting in Star Wars, was...er...what was it? "Wooden". I don't think she did that well in it. But that I put down to Lucas and co.

I must Concur Sith Lord chalk up her mundane performance in the star wars prequels to the directors and writers, but she still looks fine !!!!!
