Ok, sincerely now: Savor Dam, I think you, in particular, managed to say exactly the right thing. So I called. And got a bloody answerphone! :lol: I hate answerphones! :lol: But on the bright side, Jess is now going to know I called.

I'm sorry, Kevin's Watch. You don't need to see my soap-like agonising over dating. I don't, however, have anyone else I trust as much as the Watchers. So you lot get stuck with it. Sorry again. ;)

I, too, hate talking to machines. Being a bit OCD, I often script what I want to say in a message in case I reach one when making a call where I care about the impression I leave. A great way to further procrastinate on making a call...

And keep in mind everyone sounds uncertain on voicemail, unless they're a scam artist like a telemarketer or something.

At least, that's been my own experience.

All I can offer is to say the same I tell anyone else who asks me regarding relationships. Be yourself. If by being yourself there is interest in response, you don't have to keep coming up with being someone you're not to retain it.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how much of a fool I sounded :lol: ) I had my opening in mind anyway, so I just went ahead and used it. Next: wait until maybe mid-afternoon tomorrow, then call again (unless she calls me back, but I didn't ask her to). Then that's that. :)

Yes, I've tried being someone else before. It's a bad plan. I just fear that I'm not myself on the phone; that's why I hate them so much. Self-flagellation aside, I know I'm not the bumbling idiot I sometimes feel, but I think I come across that way on the phone.

You're right about voicemail. I didn't think of that. Everyone does indeed sound uncomfortable leaving voicemail messages.

As I said to one of my friends a little while ago, the most annoying thing is I'm blowing the whole thing out of proportion. If nothing comes of all this, it'll be disappointing but not a major issue. It's not like I'm actually particularly attached to this girl. I just felt potential there.

*So* glad this was all resolved without my assistance. Altho I'm still working on Cag's suggestion to "have a wank before you call". Seriously?? So you can sound like an FM deejay when she picks up the phone? :lol:

I'm just relieved that I don't have to fly over to Wales and stick my boot up CovJr's angst ridden arse. HAHAHHAHAHAHA... was just overwhelmed by a memory of dpharmd saying "Dozy Bint" in his Tennessee accent.... :P

I agree that Cag and CovJr are the funniest! And while we're at it, I think Hugs and Shit!! is one of the best lines in history!! :P

I need to seriously improve my sense of scale.

My birthday coming up, and I decided I wanted a bigger monitor for my computer. I wound up mainly looking online to decide what I wanted and it was ordered online, and arrived today. What happened in the end was, there were a bunch of 19" and 20" monitors I'd looked at, and then we noticed that I could get a 22" widescreen for the same price, so we ordered that one.

Holy hell. This thing is humongous. The optimal resolution is 1900x1080, at which resolution web pages appear to be mostly blank space. This is way, way more than I expected.

I may have made a mistake.

Nervous today.

Apparently Beorn's application for the high school student internship at the library impressed and he has his "official" interview this afternoon. We haven't really coached him at all, and have made no mention of the aspergers on his application...

He has been volunteering for over a year now at the library once a week for his community service hours for eligibility for Florida's Bright Futures scholarship, but it is unknown to us if the interview committee will include anyone who works with the teen volunteers, who do know of Beorn's disorder. We shall wait and see how it goes.

Yeah, at that resolution I expect you nearly have to squint to see text! :lol: When I upgraded from my old 17" CRT to my current 19" (square) LCD several years ago, the difference was dramatic. Its proportions and 1280x1024 resolution suit me perfectly. I've considered moving up to a 22-24" model, but whenever I check them out in stores, I find myself wondering what I'd do with all that screen real estate. I think I could only justify getting a huge widescreen monitor if I were going for a home theatre PC setup. Or if I were a big multi-tasker. But with prices so good now, it's certainly tempting.

Yeah, this is really way, way more than I need. I honestly didn't realise how much 22" was. As it is, I'm running in a slightly big and blocky 1280x720 resolution for now, which isn't ideal but at least it doesn't leave me with so much blank space.

I also think playing World of Warcraft on such a huge screen is giving me a headache. Arg. (That may have been the brightness, though, so I'll see.)


Edit: I found a little options button that lets me set it to 4:3 ratio. I'm sorely tempted, even though it feels like that'd be a waste of such a good monitor.

I forgot about gaming - I'm really out of touch. Games must look pretty sweet on a widescreen monitor, headache issues aside. :wink: I normally have my brightness and contrast turned way down, probably a lot lower than most users have them.

OTOH, Murrin, if you had a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you could set up the new monitor on a TV stand and surf the web while lounging on the sofa...

I got a 19" about a year ago and it was odd at first and hard to get used to, but now I absolutely hate working on my work computer with the teeny monitor.

At first, I got this disconnected feeling with WoW, hard to describe, like it was hard to play the game because of the monitor, but in the long run, the picture is really cool.

You'll get used to it. Make sure you're not sitting too close to it, though. Headaches aren't good. =/

I'm about as far away as I can be and still reach the keyboard and mouse. The desk isn't particularly deep, so that's an issue.
