It recently occured to me that the theomach might be behind possibly everything that's happened in the last chronicles.
In TOT, the new guardian, theomach-brinn, gives Cail permission to return to the merewives after helping TC, and so in effect it is only with the Theomach's permission that Esmer even exists. It is quite plausible that if the guardian did not give his consent, Cail would never have pursued the song of the Merewives.
Since Esmer plays such a central role in everything that has/will happen, and that the Theomach is likely to have a much clearer knowledge of what the (other) Insequent can achieve, it appears that everything has been laid out in advance since Berek's time!
Just thought I'd put this out there
theomach and esmer

That's a really good point, martyc.
We know the Theomach knows about the future. It stands to reason that he could know that his actions will cause Esmer to come into being. (We can't be positive, as we can't know that the Theomach knows everything that will happen.)
And you're right, when he gave Cail permission, he could have been doing it in full knowledge of what would happen. Not just of Esmer. But probably also the "havoc" that Esmer decries as well.
We can only help that someone with a long view would see that Esmer was necessary for the final resolution.

I'm not quite convinced that the Theomach could/can/will see the future. Then again, it's been awhile since I've read FR, but my impression is that he can sense fluctuations in time much like a thermometer senses changes in heat. Now, what the extent of this sensory ability is, I'm not sure. I don't know if he can only sense fluxes in his immediate vicinity of time, or if it extends backwards or forwards to a certain way...

Well, you're right that it was Brinn. But it was also everyone who came before him... Theomach, the appointed Elohim, and any others. (?)
Sort of like a non-genetic Kwizatz Haderach
It's possible that the Theomach has similar abilities as seer or oracle that Mhoram did. Or maybe his knowledge of time just lets him be a bit of a psychic. Or maybe those are the same thing

He seemed to know a lot specific information about the future. Like that there would be Unfettered Ones, just for example. And he saw Roger and Jeremiah coming, somehow.Orlion wrote:I'm not quite convinced that the Theomach could/can/will see the future.
That's a good question. Brinn says he is the former guardians, as well as Brinn. But it's not clear if that means he is somehow still the Theomach.BUt it wasn't the Theomach --not the Insequent-- at that point, was it?
