How tall was Vain
I always imagined him as quite small but a picture in the album shows him as tall. How do people see him?

I pictured him to be the average height of a human considering he was created in human form
Linden should have quailed. His certainty was as bitter as the touch of a Raver: it should have defeated her. But it did not. How often had she heard Lord Foul or his servants prophesy destruction, attempting to impose despair? And how often had Thomas Covenant shown her that it was possible to stand upright under the weight of utter hopelessness?

I never thought of him as short, but I always imagined him as crouching, giving the illusion that he may have been shorter then he actually was.

I was tempted to say he was 8 inches tall with a purple head but that would just be crude. No - he was just normal height i.e. the same height as whoever was reading about him and Orlion - no way did vain 'crouch' - that was not his nature at all (though I fully admit he did stand with his knees slightly flexed).
The truth is a Lion and does not need protection. Once free it will look after itself.

I always figured he was shorter than the average human, by perhaps a foot or so. I got the impression from the series that the ur-viles were shorter in stature, whether that is correct I can't say for sure. I applied that impression to their creation.
I know that Vain was shorter than his beloved companion Findail, so that might also be where I got the impression of Vain as a shortie.
Short and burly. Quiet, hard to move. Makes a good doorstop.

huh...the ur-viles heads were lower, cuz they were often on all fours and had equal length limbs, but I thought they were as long [roughly] as humans tall [the Waynhim (sp) smaller...like german shepard size]...But Vain...I always had him pictured as an all-black Haruchai [probably cuz he's still, but ready, and when he does move it's always sure, precise, no waste, and his "attire" seemed similar, IIRC]Cat Butt wrote:I always figured he was shorter than the average human, by perhaps a foot or so. but...Findail is taller than that? I always thought Findail was between hip and chest high on a normal human, but proportionally correct, not a dwarf or anything...did I miss something? I mean, does it say how tall Findail is somewhere? [I didn't picture all the elohim as short, btw, just Findail far as I recall]

the difference between evidence and sources: whether they come from the horse's mouth or a horse's ass.
"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
the hyperbole is a beauty...for we are then allowed to say a little more than the truth...and language is more efficient when it goes beyond reality than when it stops short of it.

Or as tall as the Staff with his arm raised over his head (isn't that how it's described in WGW when he and Findail are melded together), the top heel of the Staff from his arm ends up on top, the one on his ankle on the bottom. So to me that would make him fairly short, maybe only 5'5" or so...how tall is the Staff?Morinmoss wrote:Perhaps as tall as the Staff of Law?
