What kind of creature do you think the Worm will turn out to be?

[I moved this out of the First and Second Chronicles forum because it seemed to involve speculating about events subsequent to FR. If it's really just for fun and not serious then it ain't any worse off.]

Other. I don't think it's neccessarily an actual worm, but, I believe like the Langoliers, it "eats" reality

Since there is no "other" category, you will have to choose either "Robin food" or "Holt Fasner."

LOL, so this isn't a serious poll?

If it is a serious poll, "Robin food", certainly doesn't express my opinion, and I know I'm going to regret not googling (because I've had my monthly 6 pack) but, I don't know Holt Fasner (I realize this will probably deduct many "geek points", and I'm  if it does). If I have to choose the funniest, most appropriate response, I need help on Holt Fasner.

Holt was a character from the Gap series who was nicknamed either "the Dragon" or "the Worm," the two terms being synonymous in fantasy literature even though the book is sci-fi.

(The one exception I know of would be a scene from a Piers Anthony book [Blue Adept?] in which the worm turned out to really be a giant earthworm.)

I'm just glad to know I'm not the only person around here who hasn't read the Gap, although I am 1/4 through the last book of the series. :(

I think it's a big fat worm. Have you heard of the Gippsland Giant Earthworm (very famous around where I live). They're so big you can make a skipping rope out of them. So yeah, I reckon it'll be like that! ;)

Actually I did read the Gap Series about 12 years ago, that's why the name sounded familiar, but, I was unable to place it. Now I remember, thanks

Heh, I remember that scene from Piers' book. Doesn't it teach us that the (earth)worm is more fearsome than the dragon?

The point of the chopping-up-the-giant-messy-earthworm-with-a-sword episode was to teach us that being the hero is not always as glamorous as certain stories make it out to be.

Yes, of course. You don't have to take everything that seriously.

Me? I don't take Anthony seriously. I just happen to remember Blue Adept because it was the book that finally turned me against Anthony forever after.

Really? I thought that Adept trilogy was rather good. Way better than his Xanth drivel (mainly after the first 3 books).

I'm talking about the quality of his writing. My falling-out with Anthony is actually more complex than I made it appear above.

BA was a turning point for me. As I recall now, I didn't react that strongly to Blue Adept although it was a disappointing read, and I didn't give up on Anthony at that time. The quality of Anthony's writing however was noticeably decreasing starting with BA, but I didn't move on until after trying maybe a few more of his books published later. The last one I bought was so terrible that I never made it through the first chapter.

I was so unhappy I actually wrote him a letter, not about the quality of his writing, my tone wasn't accusatory, but more positively concerning my nostalgia regarding the way he used to write in his early years (Macroscope, the Orn trilogy, etc). He sent back a blunt response on a postcard saying that he was more interested in raking in tons of swag than writing things that don't sell while washing dishes for a living.

While I certainly wouldn't wish that fate on any author, I concluded from his response that Anthony had sacrificed his purer values; in other words, he had sold his soul.

Myth all the way  :D

However that is out of the given. It seems though that SRD has based many of his wide world 'villan' creatures worm or worm like chaecteristics. Nicor and Skurj are work like and revenous for destruction.

I know the giants believe that the world is formed on the skin of the WotWE. What if instead the world is the product of the stars the the worm ate acting on the innards. (shrugs). Lava instead of blood for instance :? .

In that way the 'ressurection' of TC at the end of FR would be the equivilent of indigestion :D .

My ultimate option would be some cross between a worm, a dragon and a mass of rock that the creator, (ocher clad begger, 1st & 2nd Chron), would set to work on. Stranger things have happened in fiction.

Hold Faith all
If we all follow Berek's code of warriors then the world would be full of the worst warriors imaginable.
