FlashForward
Just saw the second ep of this new show. Everyone on the planet blacks out for a few minutes at the same time and has visions of their lives about 6 months ahead. Pretty interesting premise with what looks to be some good various mysteries of people futures; sort of like the mysteries of people past, a-la LOST. The end of the first ep has a rather oh, wow, cool, hmmm moment.
And speaking of LOST, there is a scene in the first ep that has a huge billboard of an Oceanic Airline advert that says something about a perfect record. No idea on the connection except it might just be a nod or clue from the producers re the next LOST season somehow.
Anyway, FF looks promising so far.

I'm having a problem with how this show deals with knowledge of the future. If something was on Mark's board in the future it must be significant, but all it seems to me that they're doing is filling the board to make it look like it did in the future. Meanwhile his poor partner wants so much to prevent the future.
I know it's still early in the show, but what I would prefer they try is to make someone's flash impossible. For instance,
I mean, what happens to that future memory when it can't happen? That would be interesting to learn.

His partner is a dope.
Not only does he know when he gets killed he knows how.

The logic of this show drives me nuts. Everyone on the planet knows there was a flash forward. And yet the main FBI agent (you know it's a bad character when you can't remember the main character's name) has to constantly explain the sources of his hunches to an extremely pessimistic, suspicious, disbelieving fellow agents. Everyone already knows that the main FBI guy is researching this exact phenomenon in the future, and yet they hassle him every step of the way . . . even though he's their primary source of information!! Even after he has had several successful leads proven to be true!! Christ, it drives me nuts.
I really hope this isn't some sort of lost tie-in. The show is going to catch up with its own timeline, right about the same time Lost has its big finale. We have multiple Lost actors, and the billboard thing, along with the same general "feel" and themes.
What if the thing that caused the flash forward was the events at the end of Lost?? Jughead? If Lost season 5 finale really did reset everything, then Charlie and Penny (and other characters?) could be leading entirely different lives. The 100% perfect record thing, on the billboard for Oceanic, seems to imply that the crash never happened.
Anyway, I really, really hope this isn't a Lost tie-in, because the quality of acting and writing is orders of magnitude beneath Lost. I hope it's just a blatant attempt to retain the Lost audience after Lost ends forever.

I'm going to give it a season, because so far the pacing seems to be about what a typical season of Lost is - start strong out of the gate, slow down for the next several episodes and then ramp up the action at the end for a wonderful finale. But Season 1 of Lost had so much more going for it by this point, so I dunno.
But you are right, Malik - if it is a Lost tie-in, that will be annoying. And the writing is definitely nowhere as good.
I've been saying that I'll wait until Dominic Monahan comes in, but I think I'll give it to the end of the season just to be fair.

I thought the first and 2nd eps were pretty good, but no where near Lost writing; the 3rd ep was so so, but a bit weak. I'll give it a season, too if just for the concept and weekly added on mysteries. I don't like any of the main characters except for the "harold/young sulu" character. Need a few more freaky peeps to cast; maybe the hobbit/Charlie will be one of them, but i highly doubt this is a Lost tie-in; that'd be a big let down.

I've watched this on the internet. It's been alright, though once you know what everyone's Flash Forward is then the show kinda gets boring.
I think it's funny that six months from the first episode so many characters were doing something pivotal or something. Would have been nice to see more of the characters doing mundane tasks, like watching a rerun of the Simpsons or sitting at a red light. Instead they're having affairs, confronting major enemies, learning about pregnancies, about to get shot by sniper dudes, etc.

Well, there is the one guy sitting on the toilet during his Flash Forward. But it wouldn't make much of a story if everyone was doing mundane things, and they can explain it away by making it self-fulfilling prophecies.martryn wrote:I've watched this on the internet. It's had a slow start, but it's getting interesting now. I liked the parallels to stoic philosophy in the last episode.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Finally, something very interesting has happened on the show. This series really needed a game-changing event like that. It still sucks, but I was impressed by this ballsy move.
Spoiler
One of the characters committed suicide in order to stop his future from happening.

I'm starting to get bored with this show, but yes, that was an interesting turn of events. Still, I'm forcing my way through to the end of the season. It's such an interesting premise that I just feel it is going to have a good payoff.
Heroes didn't do that last season, no matter how many times in Entertainment Weekly they said a writer from the first season was coming back and was going save the show, yet still remained especially boring. I'm done with it now.

Is anybody still watching this?
I'm forcing myself to finish the season, which usually means that I'm watching two on Hulu every couple of weeks. It just got a bit more interesting, but I'm still not particularly moved by it. Here's hoping the finale knocks me over.

Hope it's better than the movie "Knowing".

Ahh, hell. Well, it was frequently a bit of chore to watch it, and I rarely seemed to make it through an episode without puttering around in the kitchen, so I guess it makes sense. There's just a couple storylines I'd line to see the end of. I guess tonight is the series finale then, huh?
