I see a lot of myself in Beorn at that age. In that circumstance, I'm almost positive I'd be ticked off, too, instead of enjoying the joke. But that's the problem, isn't it? Every joke has its target...and who do we suppose the intended target was? There's a very thin line between laughing with, and laughing at, a person.
