Kasreyn as Inquest?

Post by Thorhammerhand »

This is here to prevent spoilers.

Does anyone else see the similarities, title, obsession, age and wanderer?

I hear that most Inquest refer to themselves as, 'The ...' bit 'The Kasreyn of the Gyre, Kemper to the gaddhi' seem a bit of a mouthfull.

Maybe I'm reading to much into it.

any ideas?

Interesting theory. My understanding is that Kasreyn's long life was due to the croyel and not any inherent capability of his. Similarly, his accomplishments were attributed to his arts, acquired through study rather than being Insequent powers. Finally, his end was not caused by the means we learn in Fatal Revenant to be the only way to undo an Insequent.

Of course, all this is based on the Second Chronicles presentation of Kasreyn; when we knew nothing of the Insequent. There may be revelations in the upcoming two books that will futher inform our understanding of matters.

I think there was a thread somewhere about this... most people decided it's unlikely Kasreyn is/was an Insequent, but it's certainly possible that SRD will re-cast him as one.

I'm not sure it says anywhere that an Insequent can't simply be killed, though. Not that Kasreyn's death was simple, but you get my point...

I think it would be a horrible idea.
(I'm not picking on your threads Thor, honestly).
I prefer Kasreyn to be a human with his own lore of regular gold augmented by a Croyel.
Anything else would ruin his character, imho.

AFAICT, no Insequent would need a croyel to obtain a long life.

Does it actually say that they have longer lives that humans?
I thought it was only that the Theomach and ....and....the woman with the crazy robe ( I forget her name) that had skills devoted to time.

I don't have specific references at hand, but my recollection is that the Vizard encountered the Haruchai in their Westron Mountain home long before any of them came to the Land, yet the impression we get of him in FR is that he is not just a figure from the deep mists of time; he has been undone, but it was not that long ago.

Insequent, like Elohim, seem to be not quite immortal but far longer-lived than humans or even Giants.

Even if not all Insequent are long lived, the ones we know who are demonstrate that they can achieve longer life should they but choose to bend their lore in that direction. Not when "those who bargain thus for life or might with the croyel are damned beyond redemption."

The one other thing that got me wondering was/is his obsession with circles, not so much his desire for gold.

Certainly, some (if not all) of his age and power come from the Croyel,
but as we do not have a full report on Inquest nature I was open to other opinions.
