the non-specific cool video thread

Post by Fist and Faith »

Lots of threads for specific vids, but I figured we could have one like this.

To start it, I just found this while I was looking for something else. This is people freezing in place for five minutes in Grand Central Station. It's some improv type of group. I think I've seen them now and then.

Ah! Here's what I was looking for in the first place. Never heard of Flash Mob until my sister told me about it last night. She's the one sort of in the middle. Sort of behind and between the girls with the white and blue tops. Taller, with glasses, hooded long-sleeved blue pattern...

Here is one of my Mom's favorite dances from this season's SYTYCD...

Kathryn and Legacy: 2 Steps Away

www.youtube.com/watch?v=po417XoP0O0

So You Think You Can Dance is pretty much Mom's favorite show on TV. It makes her smile when it comes on. Unfortunately, she can't stay awake to watch the whole thing. Thank goodness for YouTube and DVR's. She can see them all. :)

And, Fisty...hehehe...I've heard about the Flash Mobs doing stuff like the "Freeze" and the spontanous "Thriller" dances all over the country. They do it by email and FB and MS to coordinate the time and place. It's pretty cool to see the people who are NOT involved in it try to figure out what the heck is going on.
For Myles--
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings

Mom likes this too.

Leona Lewis doing "Happy" on UK's XFactor:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsEwpVryuVw&fea ... PSWjN5P6Vs

So what if it hurts me?
So what if I break down?
So what if this world just throws me off the edge
my feet run out of ground?

I need to find my place
I need to hear my sound
Don't care about all the pain in front of me
I just wanna be...happy

Fantastic song. :)

It's just that it's my sister in the middle there. A bunch of people videoed the thing, and one happened to be on my sister. She thinks because of the two in front of her, with the blue and white tops.

The idea, from what I gather, is that there's a sort of announcement that there's gonna be this dance thing at a certain place at a certain time. Emails go out from whoever plans it to whoever they know in that area. Who send emails to others in that area. And everybody can go online to learn the dance steps. When the time comes, dozens or hundreds of people show up, ready to dance! :D

:LOLS: Ah. No, the videos are unrelated. Although the first came up when I did a search for the second, so maybe there's a connection I'm not aware of. I really don't know much about either.

I'm not a fan of SYTYCD, but my wife made me watch this, and I think it's one of the most beautifully expressive things I've ever seen:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU9i2iQRvcw

Shakespeare-phile that I am, sometimes I just love to watch this scene, over and over:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAvmLDkAgAM

This is a great piano only version of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini, 18th variation. It's a little fast, and there's alot of background noise, but still good.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2vHA67l_0c

I'll add some other random stuff later.

Possibly the funniest thing ever captured on film. Seems outrageous to say such a thing, I know. Still, pretty sure I'm right.

I love Improv Everywhere. They do lots of pranks that make me wish I live in New York. My favorite pranks of theirs are the musical ones, Rob! and Best Game Ever. Although some of the simpler ones like High Five Escalator are fantastic as well.

My favorite mashup of Jack Black Defines an Octagon:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=00hkBpX-InQ

The music is from the third stage of super bomberman. I think it's pretty good the way this guy changed it around though.

A comparison of the opening of Lupin III to a redone version featuring Metal Gear Solid characters.
