I was human (yay for paladin healing!) I built IMPRESSIVE layered fixed defenses...put mobile troops in too, but skimmed some off, just put them aside....let them wear down the first five (literally) rows of defenses...they had just zeroed out their troops attacking, and then I sent the "put aside" people out, wiped Ogre...of course, getting to that point took an hour and a half. Took another 45 minutes to get Fett. But I won.
Weird. It was very shortlived, but I know I took the name of Elvis Fett a time or two. And it might have been one of the handful of times I played online Warcraft 2. Hmmm....I wonder if it was me that you crushed.
That'd be fascinating if so....My brother used the name (in many places) of Beavis Christ.

Can I just go ahead and blame you for why I generally don't enjoy playing online with strangers and why I have only done so a handful of times? Pretty please?
Life is a waste of time
Time is a waste of life
So get wasted all of the time
And you'll have the time of your life
Hurm, I am suddenly reminded of a few epic warcraft III games I have played. I remember I had a buddy in WOW who always talked big about how good he was at the game. Well, we decide to have a go at it. I always play random, and I ended up spawning as orc. Well, there is a certain playstyle you can go for as Orc that's a little outside-the-box. As many advanced players know, the key to good macro management is knowing what the enemy is doing. I am very good at this. (Creep Jacking and surprise expansion raids are something I take a lot of pleasure in.) I'm not going to lie though, my micro isn't really that great. (It's gotten better since I started getting competitive at Dota, but this was a while ago)
Anyway, there is an extremely underused unit called a Raider, that can deal awesome damage to buildings, but ain't too useful against anything else (with a few exceptions, but that's pretty technical) Anyway, raiders take advantage of an orc passive, pillage. This allows them to recoup resources from buildings they destroy.
Anyway, one of my favorite strategies is to keep a main army that I creep with (usually accompanied by a Farseer and/or Shadow Hunter hero, which makes for some fantastic harassment, especially if you make it to level 6 and pick up earthquake.) and harass with, and keep a force of just a half dozen or so raiders in reserve. Well, another underused thing that orcs have is an ability called far sight. (Really, it's better than you think it is.) Between that, aggressive creeping and scouting, I am going to know where the enemy is at most times. (Most players don't split their army in that game, and creep with every unit they have. Most players also don't scout.) Now, since I am busy teching and expanding (and have spent resources on my reserve force) I know my army cant stand up to his, and a few early skirmishes prove that. Thankfully, some well placed towers can waste a lot of his time and offer just enough psychological deterrence to keep him from finishing me off every time I retreat into my base. This is where the magic happens. I have used my raiders to nix his expansion *every* time he has attacked me. (also explaining his retreats.) After one retreat (and after having used his Town portal scroll) does what I have been waiting for. He creeps a red camp. I use this opportunity to take out his expo with my reserve force, and attack his main base with my rag tag, long suffering main army. He has to choose, either I take out his tech, or he loses his expansion again. (With the plundered resources) So he goes in, defends his main base (while losing his tier 3) while the raiders finish off his expansion. He makes short work of my army, and goes into my well defended base. Well, I revive my hero at a tavern and go into his main with the raiders. I destroy all of his buildings and win the game without once defeating his army or killing his hero. I literally pulled a Washington and lost every battle while winning the war.
Trust me, people online will HATE you for this playstyle. The friend I beat refused to count this as having beat him.
God I love Orc. They are the most misused race in the history of RTS.
(You can pull off a similar strategy with human using steam tanks - 4 steam tanks can often take out someones tech if they aren't careful. If you upgrade their armor, those things just cannot be killed by static defense.)
I love Orcs, too. When I make a push at main base, I have several Raiders I keep[ under direct command...use nets to pull down aerials, and DON'T let them fight his units...keep them on attacking Buildings since they do Siege. And yeah, Farseeing is awesome.
Raiders will actually RIP through casters and huntresses (little known fact, siege does bonus damage to unarmored opponents). They are also nice to use against those pesky steam tanks (underused units - mobile building destroyers with fortified armor - that can be upgraded three times)
I'm actually trying to get software to look at those old replays now... Ive been on something of a team fortress 2 kick recently. It's been a while since i've brought some WC3 hurt .
