Why do I imagine that Tech-priest's binary really sounds more like 56k modems training up? I just picture this scene being the two tech-priests talking their way, and everybody else waiting patiently for the noises to stop, with occasional winces at the more grating bleeps.

And glad to have a decision. Either one would have been a viable option for me to run a campaign, though Albinus was my first idea for RT.

Very shortly, I will be wrapping up the Port Wander encounter and moving the game forward to departure. If anyone wants to get anything done in terms of introductions and so on, now is the time.

Might I add, I rather enjoyed that sequence.

Don't worry, I'm just trying to make you nervous. Maybe.

She questioned the judgement of, and insulted a former military officer with a reputation for vanity. It made for a great read, so I (as GM) was very happy. As a character, Andrea probably should have been more tactful. For the record, see my old House Rules on planetary bombardment. Not that Andrea would necessarily know about planetary bombardment, but the Invictus basically couldn't pull off what she was suggesting (it would make an impressive fireworks display, however)...at least not at high risk by entering the atmosphere.

I must admit, Andrea's suggestion was making me think a lot about a Conquest of New Mexico style campaign.

Ah. I tried to do some research on orbital bombardment, but there's a meneuver in the 40k table-top game by that name, so I got too many useless hits. There were a couple of statements in the RT book that implied it was a valid form of attack, though they didn't mention what kind of weaponry would be necessary. I was just hoping the Lance could do it.

Yeah. It's ambiguous, which is why I made my own house rules. What drove my decision is that a frigate is an interception and interdiction vessel, not a ship of the line (in traditional Naval tactics). Only the big ships have the capabilites to bombard a planet's surface from space. Andrea not knowing that is not surprising, given she's not a military expert.

Off topic a wee bit, in my quest to find the quote i was gonna rip off, i came across some VERY old low budget 40k film done for an old games day. Very low budget and poorly done but still kinda cool. I should post a link at some point.

Don't let her hear you saying that. Especially with jackasses like Eyre strutting around the place, she's not likely to be convinced that there's much value to the military way of doing things. Given that most everything is done in a military way, if not by military or ex-military people on the ship... this is her cross to bear.

(Garrius is worthy of respect, but because he's also a noble. His military background adds nothing to his worth.)
