Post by Fist and Faith »

I freakin' love the first movie! Can't wait for this! Here's a trailer:
iron-man-2-trailer.blogspot.com/

Mickey Rourke as Whiplash looks excellent!!!
And Scarlett as Black Widow?? She's only barely in this trailer, but I can't wait!
And War Machine! :D

Yeah, I'm pretty damned happy!!! :D :D :D

I loved the first movie as well and the trailer for Ironman2 looks great!

One blog I saw a couple weeks back said that the only way to make the trailer more awesome would be to have Ironman blowing up Bin Laden at a party where Megan Fox was making out with Kelly Brook.

Can't say I disagree with that :)

Before I even watch the trailer, I'm gonna say my first thought on reading your post is that they're going to skip the superlative sequel in this series and go directly to the too-many-bad guys-and-superheroes disappointment usually reserved for the third installment of superhero movie franchises.

But that's getting a little ahead of myself, and being pessimistic. There's every chance it'll be good.

Edit: Trailer looks good.

Is this going to make any sense for those who do not know the comics and back stories involved?

Have you seen the other big comic book movies, like, say, the Spider-Man films? The question could apply to any of them, if you understood those, then there's your answer.

I have not seen any of the Spider-Man ones (in spite of Beorn watching the DVDs at least once a month), but I've seen the X-men series.
And saw Wolverine.

I am sure there are tons in each which flew way over my head and I not only didn't understand, but had no comprehension there was any significance to something...

But, they were enjoyable for what I did get out of them.
So, OK.

Maybe, maybe not.....all I can say for certain is those of us who do know the comics and back stories will sense your lack of knowledge, and quietly and very nerdishly mock you.

I've never read any Ironman stories/comics and I thoroughly enjoyed the first movie.

Oh, I did too!
But from Fist's summary, it seems all the villains in the upcoming movie are known to fans of the stories. I'm wondering how much detail of why there is conflict with that many villains will be supplied for the uninformed audience, is all.

I felt they did a good job in explaining the relationship and conflict in the first film, at least for the depth a movie need go to. With as many antagonists as Fist mentions are in the second film, will that again be the case?

I will say, that I did have this same thought. Hopefully they don't screw it up like they screwed up the Spiderman series.

IM has the huge advantage of Robert Downey, so it's that much harder to screw up. But, obviously, Hollywood is quite adept at doing just that, so I'm not betting any money.

Yes, Robert Downey Jr is the reason I'm willing to spend money on IM2. The only reason, to be honest. If he hadn't starred in the first film, I doubt I would have gone to it.

That's how I felt about the X-Men movies, too. Overall I liked them in my own way, without knowing anything (or very little) about the comic book series. Didn't see Wolverine, though.

I'm really only a comic book "nerd" when it comes to stuff by Alan Moore. But I managed to enjoy the adaptations of his V For Vendetta and Watchmen just fine.

I enjoyed Wolverine too.

But again, you knew of a code name to call the woman who was with Logan in that movie. I am sure there is much more history and significance to her and the name then I have the slightest inkling of...

Yeah. Too bad DC made the Swamp Thing movies before Moore's run. Also, it's too bad League of Extraordinary Gentlemen strayed from Moore's books (though I liked it anyway).
