I, too, really like PoA. By least favourite is the second one.. CoS...
My least favourite book is GoF, but it was an OK movie. However I really liked what they did with the last one, HBP, and REALLY loved the one before, OoP ... that last scene in the Halls of Magic with He Who Shall Not Be Named, was pure movie gold. Sennds shivers up my spine every time I watch it.
But making the last one into two moview ... shudder ..>!!!!! how much wandering and mindless banter can one take?...

And how much of a 17 year old boy and girl camping together for several months with no supervision are we supposed to accept without thinking anything happened between them?

if it was H & R alone, maybe, but the three of them together ...? No. They characters have been too well established to do something to out of character ...

Well, so far, I'd say my least favorite (and not GOF Rigel said with Michael Gambon) is the Chamber of Secrets. I think it might be because it is also my least favorite book of the series as well. And my most favorite is POA, as it has the most character to it. The rest feel a bit churned through the machine, and I wish Yates would have the franchise taken away from him, as I don't think he is treating it as well as it deserves. But the last book is being split into two movies, correct? And Yates is directing again, yah? I'll expect to be disappointed, and maybe I won't be.

I can see this movie series going all X-men and ending abysmally. Most of the world has moved on from Harry Potter. There's no hope of more books. So it probably will just go ka-chinging out.

It will be interesting to see how they tie it all up. It will be interesting to see which of the kids ends up with acting careers and which don't. I agree about yanking the series from Yates because he's made it pompous and melodramatic instead of gritty and intense which was the direction Cuaron was taking it. Then again you have screenwriters and editors to add to the mix so the blame is not solely on Yates just the majority of blame rests on his shoulders. :D

Although Im not sure how well the final to installments of the movie series will turn out, I would not be surprised if Rowling decided to sequalize the first chronicles of Harry Potter. A person can make enough money to set themselves for life, hell Rowling has made enough to set her entire family for generations to come, but that will not keep her relevant. Even billionaires get bored, and the end of The Deathly Hallows was left wide open for the story to be carried on.

I absolutely, positively agree with Cag here. Yates was chosen to direct the last few movies because of his track record of success with visual fireworks. And it turns out, that's all he knows how to do.

Previous directors, especially in POA and GOF, created excellent psychological drama, and a warmth that tied us to the main characters. Yates seems to consider those as timewasters, so that all his drama is exclusively visual. After my disappointment with OOP and HBP, I'm hardly interested at all in the movies to be made from DEATHLY HALLOWS by Yates. I'm looking forward to Eclipse next summer instead.

Least fav?

...urm, yes.

Not really, but I can't much distinguish them all...they've all been decent, but at this point, I really don't care to watch the last two.

Oh, I forgot to add that I saw the HBP, and liked it somewhat. About as much as OOTP. And I completely agree with Jenn that they blew a much better and interesting ending.

I picked up the HBP DVD last week, and watched it last night & this morning.
Spoiler
It's their reluctance to include Dobie that hurts the ending. It isn't authentic to have Dumbledore get them out of the cave. It changes the way Harry's psychology should develop.
However, an obvious effort was made to reinsert warmth & humanity into this movie as compared to OOP. That raises its level quite a bit.
Spoiler
I'm going to have to reread HBP to find out what really happened with the Weasleys' house.

Beorn and I have scoured the book regarding that.
As far as we can tell, it is total invention for the movie...
Spoiler
...unless it is supposed to replace the things that occurred at Bill's and Fleur's wedding in book seven? Beorn says the trailer for Deathly Hallows on the HBP DVD does show some of the wedding...
I haven't watched it yet.

That's such a major plot point in DH that I can't begin to imagine they would leave it out of the next film!

Maybe the charm repairo would be strong enough for the house. They used it in the book to repair Hogwarts.

HPP was my least fave, with GOF a close second.
Spoiler
Um...I had zero difficulty believing two teenagers who are good friends and each deeply in love with someone else might well not have sex. That seems easily within the realm of the possible. These are individuals we're talking about, not statistics.

Dragonlily:
Spoiler
Dobby was never in the cave. Kreacher was but it was in the past and only talked of as a memory in DH
The Burrow:
Spoiler
Nothing happened at all to the burrow in HBP the book. It was totally fabricated for the film. I think they used it as a substitute for not having the DA fight with the Order at Hogwarts in the end of HBP. For me, that sucked because it took away some glory from Neville and Luna that I think was important. Oh well.

I wonder which thread holds the record for most posts blacked out for spoiling ? Probably one of the First Chronicle threads.
