After watching it the other day I found HBP to be the least entertaining. I just didn't feel as though anything happened. I didn't read the book but I felt as though the events of HBP could have been condensed down to about 20 minutes and placed at the beginning of the next film. The other films seemed to be based generally on a large central theme. HBP, though it has a few interesting moments, seemed to serve mostly as a setup for the next film. Similar to the way Back To The Future II struck me. IMHO of course. What the hell do I know?
Spoiler
Snape is the half blood prince. Okay. That was kind of interesting.
Snape kills Dumbledore. Kind of shocking but it was portrayed in such a matter of fact way it just didn't impact me much.
BTW will Harry Potter ever actually BE a great wizard or is that just somewhat of a red herring. He's kind of a talented kid but he's never really overcome much without lots of help. It seems every antagonist is wary of Harry (or just his reputation) but I still see no evidence that he's anything special...yet. Maybe the big payoff is in the final act of the final film. (I haven't read a single book and probably won't.) Maybe Harry is like Covenant. Everyone makes over him from the moment he enters the land but he never actually does anything until the end of TPTP. Again IMHO.

Well, if you really want to know, here is a spoiler that seems pretty obvious from the beginning:
Spoiler
Harry does ultimately defeat Voldemort.
But if you really want to know more than that (still no real specifics though), then here:
Spoiler
He really doesn't become that fantastic of a wizard throughout the whole of the series. He shows great potential, and learns certain things very well, and fumbles his way around pretty well when needed, but overall, I'd just say his ultimate victory is due to luck, good allies and
probably a bigger spoiler, if my memory serves.
Spoiler
the sacrifice his mom made for him which is talked about in the first book or so. He does hold his own against Voldemort, which is more than most are able to do, but is it his ability, or is it because of the protection his mom put on him? I'm still undecided.

Harry has a talent without which Voldemort would never have been defeated. In fact, Voldemort has the same talent, and without it he never would have become the power of evil.

That talent is leadership. Both of them were able to gather people around them to accomplish things no one could have done alone.

aTOMic, I was a hold-out too. It wasn't until TRC thrust the first chapter of the first book into my face that I read any of it, and that was enough to keep me going.

He did, a bit, have leadership. But I think mostly he had celebrity status. He had considerably less friends than you'd expect though. But hell, I'd stay away from him too, as people tended to die around him.

Harry always had toughness about him as well, not a physical toughness, but a capacity to cope with tragedy, and the injustices of life. Oddly enough he probably had his abusive foster parents to thank for it. The death of his family, Snape , Umbrage, Dementors, and Death Eaters all contributed too.
