Best And Worst SF/Fantasy Movies Of 2009
Haven't seen 10 or 9, but I agree with the rest of the best of. I haven't seen most of the worst, but the top 4, with the exception of Pandorum (which I thought was OK), are right.

Yeah, Moon was great. My favorite performance of Rockwell's so far. I heard Duncan Jones has been tapped for several more sci-fi flicks, a couple of which are in the 'moon universe.'
But T4 blew.

I don't even remember how T4 ended now. I just watched it a week ago. Had hopes for it, and Christian Bale is a favorite actor of mine (he earned my respect in 'The Machinist'), but it just didn't work for me.
I have not seen Moon, but it looks like I'm going to have to now...
Was 'The Road' and 'Gamer' really that good? I don't watch alot of movies as I admittedly over-value my time and won't go to the trouble unless the previews really grip me. All I saw from those two movie's previews was stuff I've already seen before. Surely I'm wrong?

That is an excellent question... maybe if we ignore GI Joe, it'll go away.
IMO, Gamer should not be on the best of... or Drag Me to Hell... Haven't seen the Road.

Watchmen would win my vote for Best Comic Adaptation to film. As a fan of the comic , er graphic novel( IMO a groundbreaking work of genius) I was very pleased to find that the film did not stray far, if at all from the original work. Watchmen beat out the Crow, and Sin City on my list.

Yeah, it's a tough choice. I enjoyed Moon more, but I think D9 was the better movie.
I watched Gamer last night. Don't know if I'd put it on a top ten list, but it wasn't bad. About on par with Death Race, which wasn't nearly as bad as the previews made me think it was going to be, even with Ian McShane.

D9, Star Trek were my favorites.
Unfortunately I watched Terminator and Transformers and couldn't agree more. Ugh.....
Never once either heard of or glanced at anything about Moon so it appears there is a sleeper out there that needs to be viewed. I saw the trailer for Gamer and thought "really? Didn't I see a bad episode of Sliders like this? No thanks." Maybe I was too hasty.

I think Moon played only two weeks here. A seriously under-promoted film. Maybe if it had featured killer robots, starred Christian Bale or been directed by Michael Bay...okay, maybe not.
I avoided Gamer because the review in the local paper had panned it. I think it got one star out of five. I don't swear by professional movie reviews, but whenever a reviewer's outlook jives with mine, I tend to listen.

Ok, I'm officially bumping Gamer off the top ten list and putting Ink on it. Somewhere in the top five.
Beautiful little gem of a movie. Part The Crow and part Eternal Sunshine, it's an art house flick that doesn't take itself too seriously. There's a couple small flaws, and it starts to drag just a little bit in the middle, but otherwise a solid movie.
If you want to see the trailer, it's on youtube, but I don't think it gives an accurate feel of the movie. The 'response to' link below the video, though, while completely unrelated to Ink, was pretty good.

It's basically a two hour music video. I didn't really enjoy it, myself.Syl wrote:Ok, I'm officially bumping Gamer off the top ten list and putting Ink on it. Somewhere in the top five.

I can see your point, but while I don't agree with the sentiment, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Been a while since I watched a music video, but there were some of which I'd be glad to watch a 2-hour (107 minutes, actuallyRigel wrote:It's basically a two hour music video.

I thought Gamer was a pleasant surprise. I wish it'd dealt with the issues it raises with a bit more depth, but it was much better than I expected it to be.
