Just saw Up In The Air

www.imdb.com/title/tt1193138/

with George Clooney...very well done movie about a man who's job is to fire the people who are being downsized.

I highly recommend it.

I just watched this and loved it...which is saying something since I actually really don't like George Clooney. Even made me cry towards the end. But I'd recommend it.

It was good. Solid across the board, not preachy or overly sentimental. Very good.

I was a bit disappointed. It was good, but I found it too predictable. The type of film I might recommend someone to watch if it was on tv, but wouldn't suggest they pay out money to see it.

A friend of mine pointed out while watching the film that Clooney's character's sister's fiance didn't have a northern Wisconsin accent...

...I told her that was good. :)

I thought this was a terrific movie. I would agree with you, Stone, that some elements were predictable, but I felt the movie played with expectations and arrived at an interesting twist involving the main romance. (I realize that is moot for you, since you found the whole film predictable.)

George Clooney's performance is sharp. Over the last decade, he's become one of my favorite "A-list"Hollywood actors. I see some of myself in his Ryan Bingham character - the confused part of him that mishandles relationships. It's interesting that we should be made to root for a guy like Bingham who leaves devastated lives and careers in his wake.

What do you all make of Natalie Keener, Bingham's upstart rival? At times her manic behavior seemed too contrived, as if she was just there to provide comic relief for Clooney, rather than being an honest reflection of her character. But maybe that's just me. Did she seem genuine to the rest of you?

Spoiler:

Also, did you think it was wrong of Alex to not inform Ryan she had a family back home? Or was Ryan just incredibly stupid or naive to think he had a real relationship with her? I know she thought she was simply playing the "game" - one that she thought Ryan had been mutually participating in. Who is more at fault in this affair? Is anyone at fault?

(possible spoiler, not sure!)

But really he didn't did he? Wherever possible he did actually use the client's individuality to make a positive difference to their lives. Whereas wassername represented the 'corporate' idea, that everybody can be made to fit a formula so the job can be done by untrained robots.
Spoiler
Edit: I don't think Alex (?) did a thing wrong. She entered into a casual relationship knowing that was exactly what he wanted too. He changed his mind. She can't be to blame for that!

I agree with Matrix about Keener...somewhat contrived at times...but still decent.
