Yes! I'd be happy to read about some more flashbacks.matrixman wrote: But would we really want him fully present? Because it's when his mind "slips" and wanders that we get those incredible visions of past peoples and places.

I hear you there. I don't think I can handle another severely disabled Covenant again. If Covenant ever says, "don't touch me" again, I think that I'll scream.dlbpharmd wrote:This is no lie - the first time Linden slapped TC, I said aloud "that fucking bitch" and some of my co-workers looked at me and asked "who's a fucking bitch?"
I am wicked pissed at Linden right now, more so than I have ever been before. I'm also wicked pissed at SRD, for this "broken mind" bullshit on the trailer. The last thing I want to see is a re-hash of The One Tree, with a catatonic Covenant carried around behind Linden for half of a freakin' book.
Berek should give him a pat on the butt and tell him to walk it off.

I'm glad Covenant came back as a leper, actually. I think it is a part of who he is as a character, and so I'm glad we have the old Covenant back. Didn't he refuse hurtloam after being summoned so that he could remain as he was?
But yeah....catatonic Covenant? No good.

I think there wasn't any hurtloam around, so he didn't have much choiceCagliostro wrote: Didn't he refuse hurtloam after being summoned so that he could remain as he was?

What if Covenant just basically says:
"Linden I know you want me to save the earth while you find Jeremiah, but I can't do that. Only you can. You're the one with the power. I love you".
And then keels back over dead.
I bet that'd really rub people the wrong way.
I have a suspicion that this is exactly what is going to happen!

Actually, I was referring to The Power That Preserves. Sorry I wasn't clear.Orlion wrote:I think there wasn't any hurtloam around, so he didn't have much choiceCagliostro wrote: Didn't he refuse hurtloam after being summoned so that he could remain as he was?

Just catching up on threads after finally reading Ch 1...kevinswatch wrote:Covenant's POV... Linden weak and whiny...
It's finally good to have the REAL Chronicles of Thomas Covenant back...
I suspect that Chapter 2 will be from Linden's POV.
(pause for the collective sound of THOOLAH groaning...)
... And I thought that before I read what's mentioned in this thread about the trailer, which I haven't seen. We got a bit of TC, but he just keeled over. I hope I'm wrong but it may be a while before we get back in his head again.

He did say a little bit more than that, and I fully expect him to die (for the 2nd or 3rd time now.. hard to keep track) by the end of the book, though we'll probably get a bit fore out of hime before the last dark..
