"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

That's so sad! :( There aren't many people who could've figured out that you could cook a two-bite cake from the heat generated by a 100-watt light bulb.

Oh man, I just thought of something: When everything switches to LED -- and it will -- we'll be telling our grandchildren about light bulbs that burned so hot, you could cook food with them. Holy cow.

That was my absolute favorite possession as a preteen. It was so empowering to cook your own snack.
The loudest truth I ever heard was the softest sound.
