The Thing Prequel.

Post by Kevin164 »

So it's been cast with a large majority of Norwegians actors and a possible female lead. English subtitles and a director that knows the fans will skin him alive if he even comes close to ruining Carpenter's movie.

What can go wrong?

oh just for giggles I'm story boarding a deleted scene from the first movie for a film critics blog. Here's three panels so far. gallery.me.com/kevin164#100188&bgcolor=black&view=grid

The film will end with someone yelling "shoot that dog!".

oh yeah..i forgot that the last of the Norwiegians were chasing the dog ans shot one of the US camp guys in the leg.

I was thinking a good ending would have been the thing absorbing the last dog, transforming, and then the camera slow zooming into the Dogs eye until nothing but pupil was left then you hear, as you said "Skudd det Hunden tidligere den blir fjerne!!!" basically translated to Shoot the dog before it gets away!!! :D

Roll Credits.

I wont see this in the theater but looking forward to bluray/DVD. the last horror flick i saw in the theater was the newer Texas chainsaw massacre with Jessica Biel. man..my wife almost jumped literally through the back of her seat.

^^Sounds good to me. The last I heard Carpenter was thinking of making a sequel. The idea of a prequel is tantalising to say the least.

If it's made in the spirit of a '70s or '80's horror flick, it has potential to be great. If it's done in the style of most American horror films of the last fifteen years, it'll just be a wasted opportunity. I look forward to a Lassie style climax of a dog running for freedom...

^^Ahaha!

"Go Lassie, go find Timmy! Good girl! Oh my god, are those Alaskan crab legs??? Oh well, at least she found Timmy...Ah, christ, her head split open! Jesus, whats that foul ichor she's spraying him with???"

And then, one of the best parts of the original for me...

"Mummy, is...is that flower made out of dog tongues???"

Totally unnecessary.

The Thing is a timeless, nearly perfect film. Why tamper with it?

Whether the sequel is garbage or a masterpiece, it in no way impacts on the first one for me. I'd rather a prequel than a remake in any case.

^Agreed. I look at these things like special features on a DVD. If its cool, sweet. If its not, no loss. It might be tampering if it was a remake or a sequel with Kurt Russell and Keith David acting. But then, i'd still go see that. Its not going to ruin my impression of the first film.

No, it doesn't do anything to the first film. But because I love the film so much, I'll see this, and it'll piss me off.

Just like those awful AvP movies.

Ah yes. Fair enough. I still remember the feeling I had walking out of the 1st AVP film. I still haven't seen the second for that reason. Why bother?

I love predator..loved Alien and seeing predator 2 I knew AvP was going to happen eventually when i saw an Alien skull on the wall when Glover entered the Predators Ship. (not to mention the Games) I think seeing that Skull on the wall in P2 was more exiting than the entire AvP movie was. didnt much care for Pred 2 either though, it was good but nothing compared to the first.

The Thing was a great movie and agree that if the prequel or part 2 are made they have GIANT shoes to fill.

Pretty cool, thanks for showing us.

That's what they said about the short story "Who Goes There?" before Carpenter made "The Thing".

(OK, I don't think "they" said that, but I'm just saying that sometimes a new version of a good thing can also be a good thing. However, I do feel that a sequel would be bad - the somewhat ambiguous ending of the original would be ruined with any kind of resolution, I think. Frankly, I prefer the ending "they were both human and they both froze to death and that was the end of that" better than anything that could inspire a sequel.).

By the way, I never played the PS2 game "The Thing" (and have heard rather bad things about it from those who have) but both Starcraft and Warcraft III had fairly good custom games based on it.
