Audio books......Hmmmm.

I have read the complete Chrons 1st & 2nd many times and have never considered 'listening' to them in audio form - in fact untill I joined this site I did not even realise they were available in this format. This morning checking out 'The Watch' one of you guys mentions that you have just listened to the 1st Chrons - and all of a sudden I want to do it.

But I an full of forbodings. Will it be well done. Will it match up to my reading imagination of say the Haruchai tonal lilt. If I read them again after will I ever be able to get the sound of the audiobook out of my head and return to my own 'minds sound track' which I love. So Guys, to help me make an informed decision could I have some feedback from some of you who have listened to the Chrons in audio. In particular I would like to know 1) How the experience differs from reading the books. 2) Are ther more than one version out there and if so which is the best. 3) Is/are the audiobooks COMPLETELY unabridged (a must for me). 4) Where can I get them.

As I understand it, Scott Bricks is the only one (or might as well be) that has audio recordings of the 1st chronicles and the last. I've only listened to the free sampling he has on the website for the book, "The Power that Preserves," but I think it was well done. It did offer a different way to view the scene that I hadn't seen before, but it hasn't affected subsequent rereadings.

Scott Brick is awesome. I HIGHLY reccomend his Audio versions. I have listened to LFB and TIW, Awesome. trust us on this. Scott worked directly with Donaldson to get the pronunciations and accents right.

My reading was twice through first and second Chronicles about 10 years ago, and I'd forgotten many of the small details, so I may not be one to rely upon about the experience. I just got the whole first Chronicles and just finished LFB and am now at the beginning of Chapter 3 in TIW, and I'm loving the Audio Books. Scott Brick does a fantastic job and it's a thrill to be able to listen to the books on my commute to work and back (I also just scored big time and got Runes for only $8.00 plus $3.99 shipping on Amazon Marketplace)

One thing I can say though, listening to the Audiobook(s) is indeed bringing me the same rush of excitement and powerful emotion that my readings did.

I don't have a good means of listening to MP3 CDs, so I had to burn them to individual CDs that I have in a CD Wallet, but, I wouldn't make any other decision, plus it preserves the original MP3 CDs as a master copy that won;t get wear and tear on them

I have Runes and FR and both are excellent! Scott is personally a huge fan of the Chronicles and it shows... he does a great job of reading the characters. Sure, a few don't sound exactly like they did in my mind, but it has only added to my enjoyment. A bit harder to accept was when I discovered that my pronunciation of a word or name wasn't the same as Donaldson's ("Ranyhyn" for example ... there's a thread about pronunciations somewhere)

(btw, there are other older versions that can be found on torrent sites. i've heard parts of a couple of them and overall they're, um, well, poor at best)

LOL, I hear you on the pronunciations. I pronounced Illearth as Illy-arth until recently when it came to my brain it was Ill Earth from people here on the Watch. Also, Triock really surprised, I've always pronounced it Tree-Ock, it was surprising to hear Try-Ock

You can't go wrong with Scott Brick's readings of The Chronicles. I have 1st Chronicles, ROTE and FR on my iPod, and I'm anxiously awaiting TWL.

I was surprised to hear Linden's name pronounced as Lin-Den. Two syllables.

I always pronounced it 'Bitch' in my head. Huh. go figure.

I found during boring days at work the Chronicles on audio made what would seem like a 14 hour day turn into a 3 hour day. great to listen while riding the bike trail to work too..
