Interesting plot, but it would have been much better with a different actor in the lead. For me Sam Rockwell is type-cast as a smarmy character from other flicks. And a bit too dufus for my taste here, too.

Oddly enough, Bruce Dern's character in the scifi classic Silent Running was a smarmy character in other flicks, too.

At a certain point, yes, it was obvious what was going on. But for me there was also a brief time when I thought a purely psychological explanation could account for his "situation." However brief that time was for you, I don't think anyone could have predicted the explanation before

And up until that point, he was already having "problems." So while maybe the mystery wasn't a very tough mystery in the narrative sense, it was a plausible mystery to the main character himself. And watching him deal with it provided some interesting character development. While the philosophical questions (like identity) weren't new, I felt the movie did a good job with them, and told a compelling story. The mystery, and whether the plot was predictable, didn't feel like the main purpose of the movie. At least that's not what I focused on, what I got out of it. YMMV.

I was expecting it as soon as he started getting sick, but I've read similar stories in Asimov's or Analog more than once. I was just glad to see good sci-fi done right.

Yep. It was either that, or GERTY had the ability to grow them from scratch in just a few hours. Having hundreds pre-made seemed more plausible.

That period was quite interesting, but it only lasted about five minutes before

It had a very '70s feel to it, which is a good thing. Predictable, but still a very good film. Sam Rockwell is rapidly becoming one of the most interesting working actors around.

Why?

Granted, I haven't said why I enjoyed it, maybe it touched me emotionally somewhat, maybe it brought back the 2001 feel a bit (I'm old enough to have seen that at the theater in '68 ), yes it combined 2 maybe 3 patented Sci-Fi plots but it'll hold a special place on my sci-fi movie shelf along with Screamers, District 9, Sunshine and Event Horizon. Just some solid entertainment during a dearth of decent sci-fi films.

Just a little contrived. The plot seemed to exist for its own sake. I did enjoy it a lot. Nor do I say it was a bad film, but it kind of let me down. I wanted more.

I watched Moon last night on DVD, and enjoyed it a lot. It isn't particularly original, and doesn't intend to be, existing in tone and plot elements as something of a callback to a number of classic science fiction films and tropes, but it is an expertly made film, with good performances, good writing, and careful pacing that suits the unfolding of the story very well.

I did find it slightly distracting knowing that Kevin Spacey was GERTY, heh.

I saw Moon over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't think the plot predictable at all; in fact, I was quite surprised at several points. Best sci-fi movie I've seen in years.

I loved how Matt Berry (IT Crowd, Snuff Box, Mighty Boosh, and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace) was in the movie.
