Heh. Nah, the Lord would be screaming for them to do "In the Navy" next. Also, not many people remember Jesus was a comedian. After all, he said [paraphrase maybe] Peter is a rock and on that rock I will build my Church...that's a PUN! "Peter" means "Rock."
Also, he could see the future, so he knew Peter would eventually be slang for penis, so he was joking about His church being built on a hard...
And we all know about sailors...

I better stop [typing and tequila shotting].

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
the hyperbole is a beauty...for we are then allowed to say a little more than the truth...and language is more efficient when it goes beyond reality than when it stops short of it.

This sort of "news" simply doesn't happen in Orthodox countries. Sure lightning strikes things, but we don't have the bad theology that gives birth to stuff that you guys can laugh at like that.
To me that's just one of the tragedies of the Great Schism (understood as a gradual, rather than sudden, event) - that it provides easy targets for ridicule that really do have a valid basis to ridicule.

Probably the most outre news of the past year along those lines here was the institution of an Orthodox taxi service - offered to Orthodox Christians who would rather hear eastern chant on the radio rather than rap while sitting in traffic jams, or chat with a driver who shares their faith. Odd? Yes. Ridiculous in the way the statue story is? No.

You just don't have the ammo over in my neck of the woods to shoot at us.

That's a really tough choice. Monophonic chant is as bad as any music. Heh. OTOH, if you want to throw in Rachmaninoff's Vespers... Well, I might to move to Russia if I can hear that in a taxi!
