So, what happens when the author of two very well received literary novels daughter tells her Dad the stuff he writes is "boring." Well he asks her what he should write about and she says, "A little girl who saves the world and Vampires." So, that's just what he does.
The Passage is a doorstoper novel about the world gone to hell when the military decides to create a virus that can dramaticly extend human life. There's a big time jump about a third of the way through the book. It does drag in a few places but the pay off at the end is well worth it. The "dragging" parts of the book exist because Cronin refuses to give us cardboard paper cut out characters. He draws all of them quite well with a great deal of pathos. This is the first book in a trilogy. The next book should be out in two years.
I greatly enjoyed The Passage. I hope others will too.
