PREDATOR sequal .. a 'real' one...

Post by Usivius »

It has recently been reported that a long gestating script meant to take place after the first (i think) has been picked up by Fox and is in the hands of Troublemaker Studios (Mr. Rodreguez's baby).
It sounds really cool.
check out the video review on "aint it cool"

Now I liked the second one with Danny Glover, but it was no match for the first, and DEFINATELY better than the AvsP series....
can't wait...

I recently bought Predator 2 from the bargain bin at Wal Mart. I remembered liking the film the fist time I saw it but after viewing it recently I discovered it was overleaden with such 90s cop movie cliche's I was kind of put off. Once things finally begin moving along in the story it improves but it's not even a close cousin to the original.
I would like to see a proper sequel made...if that's possible.

I think that a proper sequel can be made... so long as they avoid the mistakes of Predator 2, which could have been a good movie except they were trying to be formulaic. If they have a scene where on of the characters says something along the lines of "You are one ugly mothaf***er" I may just make a scene in the theatre. There are stories left to tell, I'm just afraid they'll just do the same'ol group of people are hunted by aliens, blah, blah, blah...

I liked P2, and I still like it.

Rodriguez is a great director, but I really don't think there's more of this story to tell.

I like him too, but I wish he would move away from the kids movies (I love Spy Kids 1&2, but c'mon) and get back to the charm that the first two El Mariachi movies had.

I thought Predator 2 was pretty bad the first time I watched it, but when I saw it again a year or two ago I was pleasantly surprised. It's true that the protagonists are all pretty run of the mill, but the same can be said of the original - plus Glover is a better actor than Schwarzenegger. I'd like to see a Predator film that adds a little more gravity than is available when Schwarzenegger is on the cast. I approve of the way the original started (misdirection, seeming to be a straight 'military rescue' type of film) but I have trouble taking anything seriously when it contains an oversized, mildly comical Austrian.

well in this proposed 'sequel'
Spoiler
after watching humans for a while, the Predator's 'kidnap' a bunch of humans from different parts of the world, who are known for their killing prowess (soldeirs, freedom fighters, serial killer, etc..) and plop them down on a remote jungle planet and let a massive hunt begin -- 7 humans versus 3 Predators
It's suppose to be a closer throw-back to the original...

sounds interesting...

Sounds like a coke can of a movie. I doubt I'll bother.

I bet No Escape (Ray Liotta) was a better film than this will be.

You know, it could be good if they could stay away from cliche characters and add something original about the predator, but they won't.

Sounded interesting up until "remote jungle planet". About the same amount of disinterest garnered there as when I heard the first AVP movie wasn't going to be set in the future, with Colonial Marines, on a remote jungle planet. Instead lets rehash the old Mayan-pyramid-under-the-ice trick. Good choice. ;)

That is what I said many ages ago. Since then, I have seen the film, and I've got to say, I was throughly entertained. First, no one says, "you are one ugly mothaf***er", alien or otherwise, and a few of the other formulas for a Predator movie seems to have been dropt as well.

Ok, to a more understandable review of the movie: The beginning when they introduce the characters is a little shaky. However, if you can get over yourself, you will find a movie that Predator and Predator II wished to be. It's intense, the actors (even Topher Grace!) are excellent in their roles, and the hunt has a good flow and logic to it. One thing I loved about Predator that's in this movie is that you can not criticize the characters for being stupid (a failing of most horror type films). One genuinely can not think of a better stratedgy for our prey. There's some throw-backs to previous films, but these are worked seamlessly into the movie that I'm sure I missed a few (if you watch this movie, see if you can find the big F-U to the movie Alien vs Predator).

A solid movie all around, if you liked the previous Predator movies, you'll like this one.

I just watched it and thought it was thoroughly mediocre. Not bad but nohing to get excited about.

P.S.
I missed the big F.U. What was it?
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. This, of course, could just be my opinion but:
Spoiler
When Brody told Brega that the tied up Predator was the enemy of his enemy, Brega tells him "But that doesn't necesarily make him your friend." I think this referenced the lameness of when the female lead in AvP offered up the special gun to the Predator, creating the Predator-Human alliance with "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
