The Expendables

Post by finn »

Went to see this last night and must say I had a fair expectation of what to expect and the movie delivered just that. No real suprises, but I left the theatre happy, satisfied that what I went to see was served up to order!

So what did I expect? Well the cast tells its own tale with most of the mainstream action heroes involved in some capacity or other; in fact the game was one of spot the faces that are not there rather than the ones who were. The plot was nothing we've not seen before, nor were the characters or their simplistic motivations or tepid emotional displays. But it was an action fest and if you liked Rambo and Transporter and their ilk this is the whopper you've been waiting for.

Its played for laughs in the most part and is very much a Sgt. Rock, comic strip type caper with mass slaughter of an army of bad guys in a luscious and elaborate dance of violence which is so over the top, it loses any meaning pretty quickly, however there are still excesses for even the most graphic of tastes, plus the corny lines and the one scene with Arnie, Bruce and Sly.... tho' don't expect too much!

I had fun tho' and left the cinema satisfied that good had triumphed over evil even if the good guys were a bit out there and well past their prime or indeed their bed time! Good possibilities for a sequel..........

Great fun. Gotta love a movie that delivers the goods like this. It's got virtually no depth, but it's a great time.
