Would the UK and USA release dates be the same or will the UK one be later (the normal case). Anybody know?

The UK generally releases the books a coupleish weeks after the US release date.

The October date is probably accurate.

For UK readers:
- Waterstone's has a half price offer on AATE if you pre-order before release (same price as Amazon.co.uk really)
- anyone know when the paperback version will be released in the UK? (There is a hideous hint that it might not be until October 2011 on amazon.co.uk - and I hate reading large, unwieldy hardbacks on the tube, but clearly wouldn't be able to wait that long....)

It takes them awhile to convert to paperback... namely because the publishers are trying to get as much money as they can, so they leave the hardback edition out as long as possible before releasing a paperback edition. That way, they sell more hardbacks and make more money.

Indeed, I was misled by the original information on Amazon.co.uk which suggested 28 October 2010 as the release date for both hardback and paperback copies.
It didn't seem likely, but, hey, I'm not sure how many copies AATE is really going to sell in the UK.
Anyway, I'm off down to Waterstone's to put my pre-order in. Clearly I'm not going to be able to wait even six months for a paperback - it would kill me to resist the urge to peep at comments on the Watch that long!

Put my pre-order in at Amazon US weeks ago. Having surgery on the 12th so this book will come just in time for me to fill my days with reading. Great timing! I REALLY hope we aren't left again with a last-sentence cliffhanger for three years...........
Heard my ears aright? Did not the gaddhi grant me this glaive?

Waterstones advance price of £9.95(ish) is so cheap that it's hardly worth the wait for the pb just to save a few quid - mind you I do prefer reading paperbacks, I just find them easier to hold.

Nothing to do with the cost, I just don't read hardbacks - far too large and unwieldy and it will look entirely out of place on the bookshelves at the end of the day!peter wrote:Waterstones advance price of £9.95(ish) is so cheap that it's hardly worth the wait for the pb just to save a few quid - mind you I do prefer reading paperbacks, I just find them easier to hold.
But on this occasion I'll just have to sacrifice my principles...

I'm with you on that one Barnetto. It occurs to me that AATE is the first TC book published since I've been a member of the watch. I wonder how we 'celebrate' it here - seems to me that we have to mark the occasion in some way, seeing as here we are spending hours per week on a site dedicated to TC. As an aside I wonder whether Wayfriend and the rest of the monitors are stressing out as we speak in preparation for a huge inundation of 'spoiler' censoring in the days following its release. It's bound to happen isn't it. How could we not go ballistic about what we like, what we don't like, are we pleased or are we dissapointed following an 'event of such import as the release of a new TC novel. I've got my copy as I said, pre-ordered from Waterstones and if they do their job properly I guarentee I will be the first person who can log onto this site (in the UK at least) and say "I know - 'cause I have read it, cover to cover (including that 'What Has Gone Before' bit), so....Iknow." Anybody going to pick up the challenge?

If all goes well with my pre-order, I'll have it read before anyone who doesn't have an ARC. I'm just that good. I'll then smite all posts relating to the Last Chronicles...speaking of which, why am I not smiting this topic?peter wrote:I'm with you on that one Barnetto. An ARC is an "Advanced Reading Copy" sent to reviewers and bookstore folks ahead of time. They usually end up on e-bay where you can purchase it for the low low price of $168.76.

I suspect I'll just have to go incommunicado for a couple of weeks whilst I snail my way through it - I only get to read on the tube on the way to and from work and maybe a 30 mins later in the evening.peter wrote:I'm with you on that one Barnetto. I've even got a dilemma over which Waterstone's to order the damn thing from! I'm not at work on 28th Oct so won't be able to pick it up from that store til the following day! Do I try and organise my day on 28th so I can pick it up at an an alternative store.....??
But the big question is (given that this is the first Donaldson release since you and I have been members of the Watch) whether you are going to volunteer for a Chapter dissection from AATE when they are up and running....
