Never a fan of the series, but that does look cool.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Sadly, no. The SDF1 is from Robotech: Macross. Unless there's something in the pic above I can't see because the image won't load.jacob Raver, sinTempter wrote:Wait...

The Yamato is the battleship in Starblazers (Battleship Yamato, in the Japanese language version). As in, the Yamato, from the second world war - the largest and most powerful battleship ever constructed. Of course, that record would have been beaten if battleships were still built after the second world war but, oh well, damned impressive nontheless. It did take an attack by 400 planes to sink her.

I didn't see subtitles in the trailer...? And I hate reading subtitles - you miss all the action!Montresor wrote:I presume you can read English, though . . .Elfgirl wrote:Scotty is a die-hard Starblazers fan...but do we really need to learn Japanese to see the live-action version?

Ahh, well, you'll probably have a bit of a wait anyway. The trailer would be for the Japanese language versions, and it can sometimes take two or three years before an English subtitled version is done. But I'd guess they'd be banking on the show's international popularity and will already have subbed versions in the pipeline.Elfgirl wrote:

Your right, Mont, doesn't look the same, my bad. Still, the Cap looks nearly the same as Gloval.

True, but they both look like a cliche of an old sea captain. I think they were both just playing to norms.jacob Raver, sinTempter wrote:Your right, Mont, doesn't look the same, my bad. Still, the Cap looks nearly the same as Gloval.

They've added new trailers since the original one.
Here's one, anyway:

Mega-cool to hear the Argo/Yamato theme in modern symphonic; a downer to hear Aerosmith singers sticking their faces into the story - but I addressed that problem on the discussion on soundtracks for SRD (I forget where that thread is).
I'm a lifelong Starblazers fan, even though I really only cared for the stuff that was translated - the first two series (Iscandar and the Comet Empire) - I tried watching the Bolar Wars, but it was so poorly done, and so much of it just repeat ideas, that I quickly dropped it.
If they keep a human focus it'll probably be enjoyable - although I cringe at the insistence on making Nova a kick-butt warrior - hopefully they have enough sense to not change the original formula much.

what was wrong with that theme - much better than aerosmith's abortion of a song.
