I have a hardback copy on pre-order, hoping to get it signed and keep it somewhere safe... and a Kindle version pre-ordered so I can start reading it immediately on release :)

How is that Kindle thing Akasri? I've been looking at it on Amazon for a while debating with myself. Clearly it's main function is re books, but does it do anything else. Also is it easy to read from in all lights etc. My eyes aint 100% and small indistinct script would be a problem for me. Can you pm me with a few details. Thanks.

All I've used it for is reading - so can't help you with anything else.

But I absolutely love it. I can read for hours with no eye strain whatsoever (and I'm 50, so I have old eyes :))

Also, the font is scalable, so if I'm reading in a low-light area, I can bump up the size and still read just fine. I have the Kindle I and have about 50 books on it. It's over 2 years old now, so I'm trying to drop hints to my wife that one of the new 3G Kindles would be a nice Christmas present :)

Yea, they say the Kindles are easier on the eyes than an actual book, and the screen is non-glare. Also, I've heard that when you buy a book on Kindle, there is also an audio version that comes with it, though not as good as the Professional Audio Books like Stephen Frye readings, I've heard they aren't bad.

Sounds good to me. Am also thinking of an i-pad so don't know whether this would render the kindle 'obsolete' in that it has i-book apps (if that is the right way of saying it) - but I'm guessing the 'read quality' may not be as good as a Kindle given that that is not it's primary function.
Back on topic, have just borrowed Fatal Revenant from the local library so I can get in the groove for when AATE comes out. I'm hoping to time it so as to finish FR on the day AATE arrives on my doormat.

Yeah I agree w/ barnetto.. I enjoy using all modern forms of technology, being a young(ish) kinda guy, but actual books with paper all the way for me!! Paperback, hardback, leather-bound, I don't care!!

AFAIK, it's text-to-speech software that reads it, rather than being a recorded narrator. Audio books are cost more than physical books, and the file are huge; they would easily fill up a Kindle's memory if every book contained an audio recording.

Yeah Barnetto - I know it sounds bad but I have bought it twice and lent both copies out to complete b*****ds who see no reason to return books that are lent to them. If I had my way lowlife scum like this would be put up against .....etc. etc.

That's exactly why I don't loan out books... too many people are irresponsible in this aspect, and somehow it's all right! What really irks me is that after they've had possesion of your book for years, they still wouldn't have read it! If you're going to steal a book, at least read it! :soapbox:

Yea, I almost never loan books, but, I've had issues with loaning DVDs, even had one creep sell some we loaned to him to a Used DVD place (and then blamed us for possibly ripping someone off because he sold a home Recorded DVD of a Movie not available on DVD, that doesn't play in all players that we loaned to him) <SIGH>

Apologies and my deepest commiserations, Peter...

I am moved (and shamed) by your generosity of spirit - but also shocked at your naivity...

I am very happy to direct people to the right place on Amazon.co.uk but lending out my precious... no, No, hell NOOOO...

Does remind me however that I need to buy another version of Runes as my existing copy doesn't match the version of FR I have... I think they must have changed the UK design somewhere along the line from the original "round window" (on glossy cover) to a (cheaper?) full page design on a simple card cover...

Thanks Barnetto. I'm over it now. Several sessions of post trauma therapy and a high dose regimen of thorazine seem to have sorted out the worst of the after effects but what I want to know now is "What the hell am I going to do with AATE when I have finished reading it - who wants the 3rd book in a series of 4 sitting on thier bookshelf. I suppose I can always lend it to someone. I know a couple of people who .........

One thing I noticed in my re-read of RotE and FR... Linden says "All right" a lot :)
