what ARE the implications of what happened to linden.

if you don't want to talk about it in the context of the book you haven't finished, move the topic to the FA threads and lets talk about it in the
context of what's gone before. (and pls don't make me go lookin if there is
already a discussion in progress, just lets start fresh and help me out here.)
cause i'm still a little fuzzy on the mind of linden avery and i want to
talk about the implications of...well everything that's happened to
linden, up to and including (when it's appropriate) AATE.

her father
her mother
the job
covenant
the transition into the land
the sunbane
the dirt

just to name a few.

in fact i'd love it if you or wayfriend or any number of chrons experts
would explain, in laymans terms, what has happened to linden.
cause covenant i get but linden has always elluded me.
i have never understood how her past illicited her reactions
to her present.

i don't know if that is because i am at fault for failing to understand
the language donaldson has written her in through either a) lack of education or b) lack of intellect, or, if donaldson is at fault for writing
something i can't understand due to a) him being the opposite sex and
never having had the organic experience of being female or b) bad execution
of relating her thought processes and experiences to me, the reader.

right then...so...that's what I most want to talk about in the chrons, orlion,
as they haul ass toward the ending of all things.

In short, an important thing to realize about Linden is that though she has progressed, she hasn't trenscended her past... at all. The emotinal scarring that her parents have left are still there and still provide her with the energy and drive to do what she does. She just doesn't really realize it, because it has taken a different form. This form, however, does not distinguish that what Linden ultimately does still seems futile.
In other words, she became a doctor to prevent incidents like her parents' or to atone for her part in them... which, though it sounds nice, seems meaningless. She can't prevent anything or undo her past actions.
After the Second Chronicles, she believed that she transcended this urge. She never did, though, she just transfered it to Joan and Jeremiah. Just like her mother, Linden helped Joan to destroy herself. Just like her father, she is being forced to watch Jeremiah destroy himself without being able to do a thing about it.

Linden wants to do the impossible, and well beat herself up when she can not accomplish it.

Every time Linden fails to act, and someone is hurt, the harm is her fault, a repeat of her father's suicide.
Every time Linden acts, and someone is hurt, the harm is her fault, a repeat of killing her mother.
In her psyche, it's as if her mother and father were not actually people at all, as if they were in no way participants in their own lives or deaths. Mere set-pieces to demonstrate and punish her for her innate worthlessness/uselessness.

She hasn't learned TC's lesson, she's still resisting, not accepting.

I think it is important that her struggle with herself is actually harder than TC's was. TC had experienced a time when he was NOT damaged, when there WAS love.
Linden has been broken since the beginning, she was never whole.

And, Lucimay, whatever your difficulties, I'm pretty sure 2 of them are right out as the cause: It's not your intelligence [you've done smart posts, I've seen them], it's not related to organic experience, or you wouldn't be able to "get" Covenant, since I'm fairly sure you've never been a man.

I would also add that it took two chronicles for Thomas So why not two for Linden?
