SRD wrote:Sneak Attack: The rogue’s attack deals extra damage any time her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target.
By standing back-to-back, two people could avoid some combinations of being flanked. Not all combinations, though. (proper placement of battlefield obstacles can further help.) It all depends on the specific layouts.

As for tripping someone, D&D doesn't get that detailed. The person would be considered "prone".
SRD wrote:Prone: The character is on the ground. An attacker who is prone has a –4 penalty on melee attack rolls and cannot use a ranged weapon (except for a crossbow). A defender who is prone gains a +4 bonus to Armor Class against ranged attacks, but takes a –4 penalty to AC against melee attacks.
Standing up is a move-equivalent action that provokes an attack of opportunity.
The details of how the person is facing and all that are really up to the DM to arbitrate. I suspect that if you were to declare in your post that you were trying to trip someone in a particular way, it would be taken under consideration. If you score very well on your tripping roll, that would be you doing it the way you wanted.

We can try to make an ambush, but planning a surprise can be difficult. Anything can give it away (hide/sneak and spot/listen come into play).

Usually if there is a surprise round, it's a matter of taking the most advantageous attack or positioning one can. (Flat-footed opponents cannot take attacks of opportunity.) Normal combat chatter can happen, but there's only a round of surprise, so a general plan needs to be in place if anything complicated is desired.

hmm...
Being what Laurel would do is a use of bardic music, as I said any use of surprise after would be gone. But it might be useful...

Well, given how much Led has been rushing off without consulting anyone... I can't see that it'd be surprising for you to do that.

Depending on whether Led actually stops, and if they notice him should he not, Kali has a distraction in mind that may foster gaining a bit more information. So I need confirmation and/or GM resolution before I overstep my bounds. :?

But I'm not sure what you're asking, so I can't answer.

The farthest elf is 95' away. (I asked offline.) But party members are rushing to get INTO range, not out of it.

Also, you can't move and then hold action in the same round.

And… Dire of Discord? Not only is that a cleric spell, but it grants a profane bonus… which means it's borderline evil, even though it claims to be only chaos. That's an awfully nice GM approval, otherwise.

Sorry...
Dirge of Discord.
Did I spell it wrong?
I see nothing about it being profane in the description I have.
But it is listed as a 3rd level bard spell...

So. I can cast the spell to "detonate" 45' away from me. It has a 20' radius spread. I have no idea how far I am from the nearest foe at this time, but I want to move to the closest of 25' feet of him to be out of the range of the spell, yet still be able to cast it beyond him to try and get all three. I don't know if I need to move at all to get within 25'...

Actually, I don't know what Dire of Discord is either, but Dirge of Discord is a bard-only spell that gives a penalty, not a bonus. Don't remember more than that, though.

Dirge of Discord

Originally a Cleric spell, but probably added to the Bard list at some time given its nature.

Similar, but toned down considerably in effect on DEX and the radius spread, being a Level 3 bard spell.

I checked with the DM though, once this was brought up. He said using it will have no affect on Laurel's alignment nor on her ties to Cerana. :)

Anyway, if we had managed to do a surprise round, this is what I hoped to have Laurel attempt before anyone got near. Now, we shall see if it can be effective mid-battle.

...Um, Seven? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Charm Person doesn't change a persons' attitude towards their original friends, right? Only towards the caster?

I thought the actual description stated that a person who was charmed in the middle of a fight would try to use 'safe' (nonlethal damage, penalties, etc.) methods on both sides so as to make them stop fighting.

Shouldn't Laurel have set up her spell so that it would hit both some of us and some of the enemies?

Another question...
If Laurel was invisible, how did the caster know where to aim the spell to hit her?

Anyway, I guess until this Charming wears off I'll just sit back and observe, as I have been told until the caster is killed, or however long it takes for the spell to pass, Laurel is currently in the DM's control.

Have fun, y'all.
See you on the flip side.
...sorry...
