I listened 2 Roadhouse Blues by the Doors on the way 2 work this morning. And tho I'm prone to Doors, Stones and Stairway to Heaven-aphobia for long stretches @ a time-I have to admit ol' Jim Morrison was a genius. The song rocks, it bops, it's tru blues with a little scat thrown in as well--prophetic w/great lyrics.
The aphobia-due to overplay-especially east coast mindkill of nothing but Maggie May and Stairway everyhour on the hour when I was a sophomore in HS. Don't even ask what those DJ fools did 2 Mountain's Mississippi Queen the year b4--ran it in2 the ground so hard that no one could stand it after awhile--quite sad...

fall far and well Pilots!
I've just listened to The Remote Part by Idlewild for the third time today, and I may even put it on for a fourth play later. I've actually had this album for months, but it's got everything. It rocks in places, it's gorgeous in others.
It's nothing like Idlewild's previous two-and-a-half albums, which were really raw and angry (probably a lot to do with their nearly complete line-up change). It's as though they've mellowed at the same pace as my musical tastes!

Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

HolyWood was ok, but Golden Age is great - it returns to the energies of Antichrist Superstar.Matrixman wrote:So how is Marilyn Manson's music these days, Ur-Vile? I haven't listened to any of his material since Mechanical Animals. I guess that's an eternity in music career terms.

The soundtrack to Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Leper Messiah surprised me with tickets to see it friday night - in the very theatre we ourselves perform in!
It was quite odd to pay someone else's company to sit in those moldy old seats and watch someone else's show....
But it was fabulous!!!

Agreed. Mechanical Animals seemed as though Manson had lost his touch.Matrixman wrote:Wow, that's good to hear, Ur-Vile. I came to like Manson precisely because of Antichrist Superstar--an extraordinary artistic statement it was. Mechanical Animals seemed a little flat by comparison.

Right now I'm listening to a little-known band called Calexico. I can't adequately describe them except they seem almost a musical equivalent of Castaneda. I looked around for a decent bio... www.icebergradio.com/artist/6498/calexico.html . Danlo, I can't quite say why, but I think you'd really enjoy them (though since I still haven't heard back from you about Dredg...
).

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Now I'm listening to Avenged Sevenfold. Damn fine stuff. It's metal, but it doesn't fit into any of the sub-genres. Quite old-school in some respects. Judging by the song Eternal Rest, they must have one of the fastest lead guitarists I've ever heard
Also an absolute beast of a riff about 40 seconds in

I am listening to "Rumours" by Fleetwood Mac. Amazingly good LP.
