If anyone wants to send the troops some literary love this season, please check out Press 53's Books for Soldiers offer. Basically, buy a book for yourself and they send one to the troops.
I've met the guy that runs Press 53 when he was a guest speaker for one of my classes last spring. Interesting guy, but totally all-business. And if you've never heard of Press 53 (likely, unless you're in NC), it's a classy outfit in Winston-Salem. An independent literary press that focuses largely on collections of short stories. I'd recommend either the Home of the Brave or Surreal South anthologies, but I heard good things about Mary Akers' collection Women Up on Blocks and John Ehle's novels (reprints exclusive to Press 53).

Books for Soldiers
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
