R.I.P. Captain Beefheart

Post by Lord Zombiac »

I always wondered when this day would come.

To give you an idea of his influence on me. I created my stage name because I wanted to sound like some refugee from his band.
Sad, sad day.
The world has lost a little of its color.

I had a feeling you'd be the first to grieve with me. Now for the first time, when I listen to his music I'll know it's a closed book. There will never be more.
Just like Syd.
What a loss for the world.

That article mentions Frank Zappa produced Trout Mask Replica for him, but failed to mention that Captain Beefheart also played in Zappa's band. I remember Zappa crediting Beefheart (vocals, soprano sax, and madness) at the end of "Muffin Man" on the Bongo Fury album. To me, anybody that Zappa chose to play with has instant "awesome" status.

Probably part of the confusion that led to the '70s-early 80s myth that Beefheart actually was Zappa...

LOL...and actually, Cpt. Beefheart was quite jealous af Zappa .. they had a bit of a rivalry going on in the early years --- mostly Beefheart actually. Zappa did a lot to bring him out in the open.

But I do enjoy his music.
