When I was in Austin a friend arranged a recording session and I got to record with my daughter for the first time.
Now I see this pic she put up on her facebook and I am so proud of this kid!
Here's a video she has:

This kid makes me proud!

I'd post a link to the music, but Steve did the same thing he used to do in my band "the Girl Robots."

He mixed the thing to deliberately sound like a blender in the mud.

It sucks!

An unprocessed mix of audio tracks would have been better.

Plus on one song he dubbed some bass, and I don't think he hit a single note that was in key!

Sounds f*cking aweful!

What, the link I posted? No, I liked that too.

What I hated was the way the October 2010 studio session came out.

Anyone with a panasonic tape recorder and a condenser mic could have easily captured the brilliance of that performance better than Steve did.

He corrupted it-- just like he corrupted the Girl Robots.

Hard to say that about Steve. He's a close friend.

But it's true.

Listen for yourself.

Even these videos recorded with a built in mic on a $50 digital camera sound better:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgcovNVbWRs

than these recordings:

soundcloud.com/spiritfinger/sets/coz-the-shroom-unwrapped-candy-from-the-weird-neighbors/s-6ivtd

And the recording session sounded awesome!

(except for a few flubbed lyrics)

Please note, the song titles are NOT correct, which I don't mind for the originals.

But when you name "surround yourself with sorrow" "buttercup" or "angel's song" "love is anything," it sounds like an attempt at plaguerism rather than an honest cover song!

Probably he thought he was trying to help, and honestly he probably didn't know the song titles.

Maybe he thinks he did me the greatest favor on earth, mixing our music that way.

But check out his awful, out of key bass overdubs on "Angel's song."

The song is actually better without bass.

The bass sounds great on "carcass skies," right? That's because that is my daughter playing!

It's a simple riff, but one that her mother taught her and she remembered for me!

"the Squids" is a knock out.

What bums me out is Lulu is now a self conscious teenager and is embarrassed by it.

Seriously, sarge, listen to how that guy f*cked up my music!

He did the same thing at our mixing sessions for our Girl Robots recordings.

And at shows, he would drown out my guitar with his.

ha ha! looks like I posted the link anyway in spite of myself!

Oh yeah, Lulu played bass on "Tom Dooley," "Rosewood," and "Soma" which Steve re-named "soupbone soupbone soupbone."
