Study the runes along with Kalindriel, and any knowledge check that applies, please.

they are indeed magical.....

they aren't runes, exactly...more like, some of the "pieces" are parts of runes...they are like tiles...slide around, rearrange, thus the one blank spot. they form some kind of sentence, or picture when properly arranged.

I stare at it, tilt my head to the side, then the other...

"It's a game! The Good Man had those, he tried to teach me them....I wasn't very good at them though. 'Little Trina, can you make this mess slide into proper order?' and I'd move little piecey things like those, but I never solved it."

Placing her longbow down, the bard lightly touches the runes, manipulating them until a few of them connect so that a sentence written in an ancient style of Elven begins to appear. Her mouth working silently, Laurel attempts to sound out the words, but shakes her head in bafflement.

"These are definitely Elven runes, but the language is not Elven. It seems to be more a phonetic spelling of another language I am not versed in. It almost sounds Dwarven to my ear, compared to the few Dwarven drinking songs I learned phonetically.

"Let me see if the rest can be arranged to make full use of the tiles in to more recognizable Elven runes."

The bard continues to manipulate the puzzle. If she is successful at solving it, she turns to the others and asks, "Is anyone here fluent in Dwarven? I can sound this out phonetically, if anyone here might be able to translate."

"Hmmm" Anna says as she moves a couple of tiles around "these look familiar...almost looks like the Deathwinds Drop, and if I remember correctly it's a valley with incredibly strong arctic winds. Maybe it could be the Icelands?"

Led stares at the door, and the silly sliding puzzle piece. He hefts his adamantine machet, and ponders how much effort it would take to chop through a stone door. Even with adamantine sharpness, it could take a while. Perhaps almost as long as it would take people to figure out the puzzle.

"Is it magical, or just mechanical?"

I take out my wand of Knock and cast it at the door.

"I hate puzzles."

Vynarkus looks up at Laurel, and looks slightly anxious, and begins walking across from the other side of the room, but does not shout out because she is moving the tiles too slowly to cause any trouble.

When he sees Sigrid take out her wand, however, he does shout, "Wait! Don't do that yet!
"I can understand you hating puzzles, but the enchantment on the door will activate a magical trap if we force our way in, or put the tiles in a position that is too far from the correct one. This puzzle is definately annoying, but we need to solve it so that we don't end up killing ourselves trying to get through a door."

Led's eyes perk up. "Trap? Why didn't you say so. Move aside." Led quits fondling his machet and reaches for his pouch of tools, anxious to use the skills he'd been practicing since Beauregard was taken from them.

The bard quickly lowers her hands from manipulating the tiles at the warlock's words, then smiles in relief as she sees so far the tiles she had moved all made sense within the runes she expected them to depict.

At Led's words she steps aside to allow him better access to the puzzle, whispering, "Go gently and use caution, scribe of Serloth. Let wisdom and knowledge guide your efforts."

[ooc]Is there a way to use Luck to aid another in this type of check, if one is not trained in the skill?[/ooc]

[Led is trained in this skill. It's one of his strongest skills, in fact.]

[Aid Another

You can help another character achieve success on his or her skill check by making the same kind of skill check in a cooperative effort. If you roll a 10 or higher on your check, the character you are helping gets a +2 bonus to his or her check, as per the rule for favorable conditions. (You can’t take 10 on a skill check to aid another.) In many cases, a character’s help won’t be beneficial, or only a limited number of characters can help at once.

In cases where the skill restricts who can achieve certain results you can’t aid another to grant a bonus to a task that your character couldn’t achieve alone.

[ooc]yes, yes. I know how Aid Another typically works. But since Laurel is a follower of Cerana, I was wondering if there would be a way to call upon Luck to aid him in some way, without using up the weekly lucky blessing a follower may invoke generally for battle. Especially since Laurel is not trained in this skill.

We do have different deities and house rules for them, outside of the manuals. I'm just curious if there is something which can be done through those means to help.[/ooc]

Laurel can Inspire Competence with her song. I am assuming she will do so based on previous posts.

And.....the bard's inspiration proves the difference, as Led teases out the puzzle! a map of the Icelands is revealed....except apparently this map predates the Ice part of the name for a good 50% of what is now called Icelands. However, certain places on the map are illuminated in varying ways once the map is assembled...some brightly lit, some flashing, varying colors.....

If not, I cast Knock on it.

Gazing as the colors and their changes.

The door unlocks, and opens a tiny crack.

Along the southwestern edge, in what is called the Redoubt Woods in a high valley in the Shield of Valkhan mountains, a green dot has commenced to flicker....rapidly brightening.......and a very dim echoing green, much smaller, flashes once every minute or so....at the map point for where you are.

Reach towards the pretty flashy green spot to put my finger on it.

Anna watches Kat poke the glowing dot interestedly. She says to the group, "Well, so now what? Any ideas on which way we should go?"
