"Thanked 3 times"....what's this all about and how do you "thank" someone on this forum?

I think it has to do with the "good post" button and to find out who thanked you:

Next to the quote button [upper right corner of a post] is a button: blue checkmark and greenwords "goodpost", that thanks author when clicked.
I've noticed it missing sometimes/in some threads.

Nope.
Other than the "thanked by [username]" under the user items on the post thanked. But there is no list of posts which were thanked nor by whom anywhere.
