They probably don't include that feature in receivers anymore because music isn't recorded in mono anymore. However, I've heard that the Beatles were reissued on CD in their original mono format, and that they actually sound a lot better because that's the way they were intended to be played, instead of stereo. I've been curious to see how they sound myself. I'm not sure how modern receivers would handle them. My 10-yr-old Kenwood receiver has a digital mode that can turn stereo music into mono. It sounds like crap. I don't use it. But I have 6 speakers, so I don't need to.
