There are plenty of places around the US right now where, I bet, he would be even crankier, like Chicago or parts of New Mexico, like the Ruidoso area where Zombiac lives with record breaking sub-zero temperatures, no gas and parts of Texas with rolling blackouts to boot.
Not too bad here today, though it seems like half of the city's homes have broken waterpipes and the Gov. has declared a state of emergency. Should get up to 36 so that will be a break. Schools and all non-essential services are shut down today to conserve gas. Ali will be glad to know that the buses couldn't start yesterday because the diesel in the buses turned to gel-nothing to do with anti-freeze. So what do they do in colder states use regular gas and we're just a bunch of idiots?
Boy I'm glad I had half of our plumbing redone and the water heater moved to behind the fireplace during our remodel 3 years ago. The Stonedown, so far, is safe!

So I just met some nice Dutch folk because they recognized the book I was reading (Bonehunters by Erikson). We had a fun sit down, and I found out that they liked metal, had heard of most the groups I've listened to, have read the books I've read, and over-all had the same outlook on life that I do.

Speaking as a bottom-rung shelf stacker, you sound like the kind of boss I'd like to have, Jenn. Wanna come to NZ and manage my Chilled and Frozen aisle?Cameraman Jenn wrote:I had an interesting exchange today. I got in to work and one of the assistant managers was cranky and barely speaking to me. I asked what was up and he didn't really want to talk to me. I pushed the issue. Turns out he was pissed off because I had left a small stack of boxes up front, must have overlooked them during my final walk through of the night. I was like, "Seriously? That's it?" He mumbled something about me having to get used to it because he's cranky a lot. I told him, "FYI, I don't do cranky well and especially if you are giving me the cold shoulder over something so small. If you are mad about something I did or didn't do then we need to talk about it right away so we can fix it, not make me force you to talk so you stop being rude to me." He looked at me and said," You are right, I was being rude. I'm sorry." Then he again mentioned that he is cranky quite a bit and I told him that we would be working on that one whether he liked it or not because I don't like being around cranky and that if I have to I will annoy him into smiling or going postal, his choice. He laughed at that and was not cranky for the rest of the day.
As to how I feel, let's just say when I drank so much wine last night I wasn't anticipating being woken by what sounded like a chainsaw on concrete directly outside my window.

Rain, rain, rain. Still, it's better than snow.
On day 5 of a 8 day run before I get a day off. It's starting to get to me. Population in the jail is increasing, which makes it harder. Lots of needy prisoners to deal with. Never mind, only 15 years & 7 months until I retire.
Maybe a glass or two of wine will chill me out a bit. Cheers.

Congratulations, Menolly and Beorn. Sounds like you're going to have them fighting over him.

Stevie: Yes, those two have always been brilliant.
Menolly: Congratulations to your son. Early acceptances are always so promising. Seven applications is a lot; were the acceptances from his preferred schools?

Focus on where you are going and why.

Had a productive day today. Cleaned up in lockup and cleaned the breakroom and the janitor's closet. Crap just stacked everywhere. Sink broken and running constantly, come to find out they haven't been able to fix it because nobody knew where the water main for that sink was. I found it in an access panel blocked by stacks of five gallon buckets of floor cleaning/buffing products. Put in another call to building maintenance to come fix it now that you can access the panel. Ridiculous. Apparently the water has been broken like that for almost a year. While cleaning out the unclaimed lockers I found stuff from employees that quit over five years ago. I also found a ten year employment anniversary gold and diamond lapel pin in one of the lockers that apparently belonged to someone named Earnest. I wore it today and one of the night stockers saw it and thought I actually had been with the company for over ten years. HAHAHAHAHA! I'm keeping it. It amuses me.
On funnier notes, Mike was in today, our LP guy and I think I posted about mooning him in the receiving bay cameras, anyway, I confessed to him about it. Told him the initial incident where I was pulling down the baler door and had stepped on the back of my too baggy pants and poof, down my pants went. He was laughing and said the funniest part about that is that he was in Emeryville yesterday and put in a work request because that particular camera was really fuzzy. I told him that there were other partial moons in other cameras if he got really bored. It was highly amusing. I also learned that there is no love lost between Mike and my new manager and so he shows up when he knows she won't be there and she is currently on vacation.
Anyway, now I am home and relaxing and tomorrow is my "Friday" so I am in a good mood. I paused for a smoke break on the back porch while writing this and my neighbor Antonio from the building next door was coming up the back stairs laden with lemons from his wife's lemon tree and he tossed me a few and they smell INCREDIBLE. I almost want to peel and eat them like an orange. Note to self, put southern fried catfish on the weekend menu.

Good for you, Vain.
I'm not sure how I feel today. I got up late yesterday and had way too much caffeine (just wasn't paying attention to how much I was taking in...). Finally had a cup of coffee with Amaretto around 9pm, thinking the booze would offset the caffeine and I'd be able to drift off. At 2am, when I'd finished the book I was reading and still wasn't the least bit tired, I fired up the computer again and started a new round of editing on the novel. Finally got sleepy around 7am (oy) -- fetched the paper in, fed the cat and went to bed. Woke up at noon.
To make matters worse, I've got an Imbolc gathering to go to this afternoon (in less than 2 hours!), to which I need to bring a snack. One woman is doing a detox diet and we've been trying to tailor the snacks to it (because otherwise she won't come -- there are only 4 of us in the group anyway), but none of the traditional Imbolc foods (dairy and bread, mostly) are on her approved list. I was going to go out this morning and get rice milk and make some rice pudding, but that plan is obviously shot. Guess I'll stop at the grocery store on the way over and buy some non-citrus fruits or something...
