In praise of Bill Murray

Post by High Lord Tolkien »

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Murray

For some reason Bill Murray movies have been playing a lot on cable recently.

"Lost in Translation" is one of those movies that I don't speak highly of, I have no fond memories about and yet I watch it and enjoy it EVERY TIME it on TV.
It's a very weird thing for me.

"The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" I love. Again, I'm not 100%sure why I like it so much but I could watch it 100 times in a row.

And then there's the classics he's famous for.
Bill Murray's list of films has a few stinkers but for the most part his films are all fantastic.
I still can't believe the 1st Ghostbusters was in 1984.......damn I'm old.

Caddyshack, Ground Hog Day, The Man Who Knew Too Little, and Stripes always make me laugh.

There was a really good interview with him recently on Howard Stern.

Love Groundhog Day! Enjoyed Razor's Edge.

I just saw him in Zombieland. Interesting

He was great in Get Low, even if it was a supporting role.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Caddyshack, Stripes and Ghostbusters are some of Murray's best. I could give or take Lost in Translation, but thought he was pretty good in it. I also liked his bit part in Zombieland.

I have no good explanation for it, but I thought Murray was funny in Kingpin. God that man could bowl

Looking forward to watching Get Low. I've read some good reviews.

Can't believe What About Bob hasn't been mentioned yet in a Murray thread! Classic Murray! Love that movie.

Couldn't agree more, Z. Other travesties -
Rushmore
Coffee & Cigarettes (although a bit more understable as he has a bit part in it, but hell, Zombieland was mentioned).
And for that matter, he was the best thing in Meatballs.

I haven't seen those 2.
I'll look for them now though.

You haven't seen Coffee and Cigarettes? Where have you been?

I think Bill has always been Hollywood's "go-to" guy for off-the-wall movies.
